THE OPPORTUNITY

Position: Speech-Language Pathologist
Location: Timiskaming District (base office can be either New Liskeard or Kirkland Lake)
Effective: ASAP
Status: Unionized

POSITION SUMMARY: The Speech-Language Pathologist provides assessment, treatment, and prevention of speech, language, communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and youth. Working within a family-centred and interdisciplinary model, the Speech-Language Pathologist develops individualized treatment plans, provides caregiver education, and offers clinical supervision to Communication Disorders Assistants in accordance with CASLPO standards.

JOB DUTIES:
  • Provides quality family-centered care through assessment, providing clinical findings and treatment programs to assist children/youth in achieving their maximal functional ability in the areas of speech, language, communication, and oral motor development.
  • Documents client-related activities and workload practices according to Children's Treatment Centre and College standards.
  • Utilizes therapeutic techniques / modalities as necessary in the provision of therapy and maintains client confidentiality and privacy.
  • Communicates effectively and ensures continuity of care by making treatment decisions in close collaboration with the children/youth/family, other rehabilitation staff and other community service providers as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Educates the child/youth, family and other caregivers in the condition/disease process and specific treatment/intervention suggestions to ensure appropriate follow-through of daily activities and programs. The focus may be prevention, maintenance and/or treatment for the child/youth and family.
  • Provides clinical supervision within the discipline's scope of practice to designated support personnel and/or placement students.
  • Provides equipment recommendations/prescriptions and/or refers children/youth to appropriate services.
  • Acts as a resource/educator for the children/youth, families, staff, students, professionals and communities through the facilitation, development and implementation of education programs.
  • Participates in the orientation and training of new staff members, placement students and/or volunteers.
  • Pursues on-going professional development and growth.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Masters Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Current registration with the College of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of Ontario
  • 2 years related work experience within a pediatric/health care setting with children and youth with special needs an asset
  • Experience working in Augmentative and Alternative Communication is an asset
  • Working knowledge of community resources and supports within the Districts of Nipissing, Muskoka, Parry Sound and Timiskaming
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills/Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Ontario driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable vehicle
  • Computer competency and adaptable in the use of computer software for the purpose of assessments, documentation, programming and communication.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is preferred
  • ADP authorizer is an asset
  • Proof of COVID Vaccinations as required by the sector

COMPENSATION: $41.13 - $51.58 hourly (depending on prior experience as per our Collective Agreement).
