Job SummaryResponsible for the planning and implementation of Speech-Language Pathology evaluation and treatment services. Evaluates communication disorders and administers therapy treatments for resident/patient problems associated with hearing, speech, language, cognitive and swallowing disorders. Maintains records, monitors progress, and counsels residents or patients and their family members.
Core Job Responsibilities- Responsible for administration and direct application of Speech/Language Pathology treatment modalities as prescribed by a referring physician.
- Evaluates, assesses, plans, directs and treats all residents or patients referred for speech/language pathology services. Interprets test results in accordance with standard speech/language procedures.
- Re-evaluates patients as appropriate. Implements new treatment plans and goals as necessary.
- Implements treatments to restore function and prevent disability following disease or injury.
- Participates in multidisciplinary consultations.
- Participates in performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities.
- Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements as applicable.
- May provide information related to departmental budget considerations in relationship to Speech Pathology needs for optimum patient care and service.
- May assists in scheduling patient or resident visits for further evaluation and treatment.
- Ensures all documentation and charts are complete.
- Participates in infection control, safety and educational programs, both in the department and on an organizational wide basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience RequirementsREQUIRED:- Graduate of a college/university accredited by the American Speech and Hearing Association with a degree in Speech Language Pathology.
- Excellent communication skills to communicate with patients, medical and house staff. Excellent assessment skills to make accurate prognosis of patient potential and guide the individual to achieve that potential.
- Proficient with MS Office and Epic\EMR software.
PREFERRED:- Prior experience in a long-term care facility working as a Speech- Language Pathology (SLP)
Licensure/Certification RequirementsREQUIRED:- Current NYS license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (or temporary permit).
- Must hold or be eligible for the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
