Job Description and Responsibilities

This is a full-time, on-site role as a Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Thornton, CO.

The Special Education Teacher (SPED) will be responsible for providing teaching and case management services to students, conducting assessments, developing IEP plans, evaluating progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs) that support each student's academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
  • Deliver specialized instruction using evidence-based practices tailored to students' unique learning needs and abilities.
  • Conduct educational evaluations and participate in the assessment process to support eligibility, placement, and instructional planning.
  • Provide case management services, ensuring compliance with special education timelines, documentation, and communication requirements.
  • Track student progress through ongoing data collection, documentation, and progress monitoring while adjusting instructional strategies as needed.
  • Foster a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement, independence, and success.
  • Partner with families, general education teachers, related service providers, and school staff to develop coordinated support plans for students.
  • Support classroom personnel by providing guidance on effective instructional strategies, accommodations, and behavior supports for students with special needs.

Compensation
  • $55-$70+ per hour, depending on experience
  • Approximately $1,875-$2,625+ per week based on a full-time schedule

Requirements
  • Teaching Certification, Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher in Special Education
  • State License as SPED teacher
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearance
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications


Physical Requirements

Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
