Job Description and Responsibilities

This is a full-time, on-site role as a Special Education Teacher serving a school located in Redwood City, CA.

The Special Education Teacher (SPED) will be responsible for providing teaching and case management services to students, conducting assessments, developing IEP plans, evaluating progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs.

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • On-site position providing in-person instruction
  • Valid California Clear Credential (or equivalent full California teaching credential) required

    • Elementary (Grades 3-5)
    • High School (Grades 9-12+)
  • Classrooms serve students with mild/moderate, mixed, and extensive support needs
  • Typical caseload of approximately 8-12 students with dedicated paraprofessional support
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) that address each student's academic, behavioral, and functional goals.
  • Deliver specialized instruction using differentiated teaching strategies designed to meet a variety of learning profiles and support needs.
  • Provide case management services, including IEP coordination, compliance, progress monitoring, and required documentation.
  • Conduct educational evaluations and participate in assessment activities to support eligibility, placement, and instructional planning.
  • Collaborate with families, related service providers, administrators, and multidisciplinary teams to promote student success.
  • Collect and analyze student data to monitor progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed.
  • Foster a structured, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that supports positive behavior, independence, and meaningful learning.
  • Partner with classroom staff and paraprofessionals by providing guidance, coaching, and instructional support to ensure consistent implementation of student programs.

Compensation
  • $75-$85+ per hour, based on experience
  • Approximately $2,812-$3,187+ per week on a full-time schedule

Requirements

  • Teaching Certification, Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher in Special Education
  • State License as as SPED teacher CA Clear (or full) License Credentials
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearance
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications


Physical Requirements

Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
