NFI Massachusetts, Inc. is seeking an experienced and collaborative
Special Education Coordinator to oversee SEIS educational services within the Evolutions 1 & 2 Intensive Residential Treatment Program (IRTP) in Westborough, MA. This position supports students with complex psychiatric, behavioral, and educational needs within a highly structured therapeutic setting while ensuring compliance with DESE regulations, SEIS requirements, IDEA, and agency policies.
The Special Education Coordinator serves as a member of the IRTP Leadership Team and works closely with NFI clinical and residential staff, SEIS leadership, families, and sending school districts to support high-quality educational programming and student success.
Essential Responsibilities- Provide leadership and oversight of special education services and programming
- Ensure compliance with DESE regulations, IDEA, SEIS requirements, and agency policies
- Monitor IEP implementation, facilitate IEP meetings, and oversee progress reporting, evaluations, and standardized testing
- Maintain required DESE, SEIS, DMH, and FERPA-compliant documentation
- Support teachers in delivering standards-aligned, trauma-informed instruction within a therapeutic setting
- Ensure implementation of accommodations, modifications, behavior supports, and clinical recommendations
- Coordinate transition planning, assessments, and related educational services
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align educational and treatment goals
- Participate in leadership and senior administrative meetings alongside department heads to support and guide program operations
- Supervise and support Special Education Department staff, including teachers, related service providers, and administrative staff
- Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and professional development initiatives
- Assist with special education budgets, reporting, transportation coordination, and program operations
- Maintain communication with families, sending districts, SEIS leadership, and outside agencies
Qualifications - Massachusetts DESE Special Education Administrator License required
- Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field preferred
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in special education leadership or administration
- Strong knowledge of DESE regulations, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
- Experience supporting students with emotional, behavioral, or psychiatric needs
- Experience in residential, clinical, or alternative education settings preferred
- Knowledge of DMH, SEIS, and institutional education programming preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with trauma-informed practices and multidisciplinary treatment environments preferred
Position Details - Salary Range: $90,000- $100,000
- Full-time, exempt position
- Specialized school setting within a secure DMH IRTP program
- Reports to the IRTP Division Director
