Full Job Description

About the Role

Skydio is seeking a hands-on, customer-facing Solutions Engineer to serve as the Dock subject matter expert for our Federal and Defense customers. This is a technical role aligned to the sales motion, responsible for winning technical validation, deploying dock-based autonomous systems, and ensuring successful operation across compliant cloud and on-premise environments. You will partner with Federal Sales to lead technical discovery, validate deployment architectures, and prove system performance through demonstrations, proofs of concept, and field deployments, operating comfortably both in front of senior government stakeholders and alongside engineers and operators in field environments.

This is a remote role. Travel of 50 to 75% is required to support customer engagements, field activities, deployments, team onsites, and company events.

About the Team

The National Security Solutions Engineering team is the technical arm of Skydio's federal go-to-market motion. We sit between the customer and the product: translating mission problems into requirements, proving capability in the field, and making sure Skydio's products are accredited, integrated, and flown at scale.

As Skydio advances toward large-scale dock deployments and browser-based remote operations, this seat is the bridge between customers and Skydio's Product and Engineering teams. The team is measured on technical win rate, evaluation and field trial outcomes, program expansion, and the quality of the requirements we push back into the product organization.

Solutions Engineers are critical members of the Skydio organization and work closely with Account Executives, Program Management, Engineering, and Product to support deal progression, customer confidence, successful deployments, and the long-term success of federal sUAS programs.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to win technical validation and define deployment success criteria, and serve as the Dock subject matter expert for autonomous systems operating in cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Lead demonstrations, proofs of concept, and field trials, including hands-on dock installation, configuration, operation, and troubleshooting, and ensure systems are installed, tested, and delivering value as agreed.
  • Design, deploy, and troubleshoot compliant cloud, on-premise, WiFi, cellular, and IP networking architectures, and build scalable deployment processes for dock installations on secure government networks.
  • Work the accreditation and compliance path these customers require: ATO processes, impact levels for cloud hosting, secure data handling, NDAA compliance, and Blue UAS Cleared List status.
  • Act as the customer's technical representative internally, coordinating with Product, Engineering, and Sales to resolve issues, and quantify product feedback into prioritized, defensible requirements.
  • Support customer onboarding, training, and early operational use to drive long-term adoption and expansion, and support executive briefings and customer reviews as required.

What Makes You a Good Fit
  • 3+ years supporting cloud-connected or on-premise hardware and software systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with WiFi, cellular, and IP networking, including troubleshooting connectivity issues, and familiarity with compliant cloud environments, on-premise deployments, and secure data handling.
  • Experience installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining hardware systems in customer environments, and familiarity with Linux-based systems and mechanical or robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with government acquisition processes and the delivery of complex technical systems under contract.
  • Proven ability to implement new technology and coordinate with technical teams to deliver on customer schedules.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with comfort presenting to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working outdoors, at height, and performing physical tasks including climbing ladders.

Nice to Have
  • Basic scripting or software integration experience, and working knowledge of REST APIs and customer integrations.
  • Experience with commercial or government autonomous aircraft systems.
  • Cloud or infrastructure certifications, or a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience bridging operators and engineers, with credibility in both field deployments and technical discussions.

What Is Required
  • Active FAA Part 107 Certificate.
  • Ability to travel 50 to 75% of the time.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs unaided.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
  • This role supports products our government customers and is subject to a government contract that requires Skydio to limit this position to candidates with U.S. Citizenship. We welcome every qualified candidate eligible to work in the United States to apply.
