Full Job Description
RSi is looking to fill a Software Safety Engineer (E3) position to support our NASA customer on the Safety, Mission Assurance Engineering Contract (SMAEC). The Software Safety Engineer performs engineering assessments and analyses on the assigned Program, Commercial Vehicles (manned and unmanned) payloads and experiments that are flown on International or commercial vehicles.

Summary of duties include but are not limited to:
  • Assure that software safety design and operations specifications and products meet Gateway Program Safety & Mission Assurance (S&MA) software safety requirements
  • Assess software development, test, verification, and change products and identify problems and noncompliance's
  • Prepare reports, present findings of assessments and evaluations, and provide recommendations to the NASA S&MA Software Team Manager
  • Participate in Safety Panel Reviews
  • Participate in anomaly assessment processes and evaluate safety compliance of proposed on-orbit software modifications
  • Participate in, and represent software S&MA assurance, as appropriate and as required in working groups, panels and boards in order to perform the above described tasks
  • Work with customers - NASA, contractors, and International Partners

Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications:
  • BS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited University
  • 10+ years related experience in software safety engineering, software verification and validation, or safety-critical systems in aerospace, defense, or similar high-reliability environments
  • Ability to develop excellent working relationships with customers, peers, and management
  • Basic knowledge and use of personal computers with typical business software ( i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics)
  • Familiarity with the NASA organizations and processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to travel (5%)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/IT Skills/Certifications:
  • NASA system flight safety review process experience.
  • Familiarity with the NASA organizations and with the various programs
  • Experience with direct participation in conducting and documenting space system safety review
  • An understanding of system safety hazards analysis process.

Work Environment:
  • Primarily office-based work within an engineering or project team setting

Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods while performing desk-based analysis, documentation, and reviews.
  • Occasional standing or walking
  • Light lifting (typically up to 20 pounds)

Other: Favorable determination of background checks and verifications to include education verification and past employment, NASA NAC or any other required for program access. NASA requires a Public Trust background investigation that is conducted during employment
  • You will be required to provide two (2) forms of Federal I9 documents.
