POSITION SUMMARYWe are looking for a resilient, high-energy, experienced
Software Safety Engineer, who will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for mission and flight safety that will interface with design engineers, safety engineers, reliability engineers and representatives from other subsystems to plan, document, and execute effective strategies for eliminating and/or minimizing risk and ensuring the safety of crew and ensure mission success.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Conducting system level safety analysis utilizing historical/industry/recommended safety requirements and attributes into the software and system level design
- Conducting safety and hazard analyses focusing on the software architecture and design implementation to ensure the software operates safely and recovers or mitigates the propagation of errors/failures in the system
- Assist with the definition of safe computer control strategies in critical operations of the system
- Participate in design and verification/validation of the system with a focus on the software in various safety reviews, working groups, engineering panels, and technical interchange meetings involving the overall system design and implementation
- Coordinating with systems engineering, test and verification and validation (V&V) personnel to ensure safety-critical requirements in the system are tested at an acceptable level of rigor
- Build relationships and work with system and software engineers, system engineers, safety engineers, avionics and design engineers in developing the requirements necessary to build a safe software system in a space environment
- Possess innovative and forward-thinking strategies to incorporate measures for automation and future development
- Provide technical support at design reviews and test and verification activities as required.
- Collaborate with technical engineers to identify critical items of the system for implementing a strategy for verification and ensuring a safe system.
- Prepare technical documentation and presentations for peers, management, and external customers and partners
- Communicating analysis progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and management
- Perform additional job duties as assigned

Education & Experience- Bachelor's degree in engineering, aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or related technical discipline
- Analyzing and evaluating systems to identify potential critical or safety critical functions and propose actions to mitigate events or operation
- Planning, performing analyses, and reporting results
- A broad background in space systems engineering including an understanding of space vehicle design, space system architecture development, ground systems support, payloads, and space missions and operations development
- Knowledge of spaceflight subsystems and functions, preferably human spaceflight related
- Experience with NASA human spaceflight programs desired
- Track record of delivering products in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Uses good judgement to solve problems proactively, positively impacting hard challenges

WORK ENVIRONMENT:Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
Requirements - Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
- Management has the prerogative to select at any level for which the position is advertised.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones
Physical Requirements- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time).
