Job Title:

Software Product Verification Specialist

Reports to:

Director, Software Development

Based in:

Ottawa, ON

Term:

Full Time

About the role:

This role is suited for an experienced Quality Assurance (QA) or Verification Engineer seeking a leadership step or a Systems Engineer with a passion for test infrastructure. This role drives the Product Verification (PV) strategy for our Earth data acquisition systems. These systems collect, record, and stream sensor data from challenging field environments, ranging from deserts and mountain tops to Antarctica and the bottom of the ocean.

This role is designed for a practical, systems-thinking verification specialist who wants to take hands-on ownership of the operational readiness of our critical Earth data acquisition systems. Instead of just managing a static test plan, your success will be measured by the stability, consistency, and thoroughness of the verification process across our diverse edge-to-cloud domains. In this position, you will directly drive the following outcomes:

  • System Reliability: Ensure data-streaming sensor software performs reliably under harsh, real-world field conditions.
  • Available Test Environments: Maintain a resilient, monitored PV lab environment capable of supporting consistent long-term testing.
  • Developer Offloading & Automation Growth: Collaborate closely with the development team to identify key opportunities for expanding our test automation suite, systematically increasing test efficiency to free up software developers for core coding.
  • Collaborative Quality Governance: Partner with Software Development and Product Management to streamline defect prioritization and provide clear, data-driven release recommendations.

Responsibilities:
  • Establish, execute, and own the comprehensive end-to-end Product Verification (PV) strategy for our products across cloud, data center, mobile app, and instrument environments.
  • Own the health, configuration, and monitoring of the PV lab and test environments to ensure maximum availability and uninterrupted long term tests.
  • Lead the execution of PV tests that must be executed manually, while working with software developers to identify opportunities to increase test automation.
  • Ownership of PV governance from test planning, scheduling, and tracking, to providing the final "go/no-go" recommendation to R&D management.
  • Evaluate, integrate, and maintain advanced testing tools, environment observability solutions, and simulation frameworks to mimic extreme field deployment conditions.
  • Drive cross-functional defect triage meetings with Software Development and Product Management to prioritize and resolve issues discovered during verification.
  • Uphold our culture of rigorous quality assurance, continuous verification improvement, and test infrastructure excellence.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in product verification, validation, systems engineering, or test automation, preferably in environments combining software and hardware components.Deep experience with essential software and test lifecycle tools including version control (Git preferred), task/defect tracking (Jira preferred), and automated test frameworks.
  • Strong familiarity with Linux-based systems and hands-on environment troubleshooting.
  • Good knowledge of networking and web protocols (TCP, UDP, HTTP, etc.) and network topology configuration.

Assets:
  • Basic programming experience to collaborate effectively with the development team and analyze logs.
  • Familiarity with environmental simulation, sensor technologies, or data streaming validation.
