Full Job Description
Position Summary

ExtraHop is at the forefront of innovation in the cybersecurity space, delivering cutting-edge Network Detection and Response (NDR) solutions that empower organizations to detect, respond to, and mitigate cyber risks in real time.

Join ExtraHop as a Software Engineer III and help us build a fault-resilient, highly available, and customer-centric platform. In this role you will work with the team to build a scalable and secure platform and develop customer-facing features that enable security and engineering teams to stop threats in their tracks. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is obsessed with customer success, passionate about simplification, and eager to dive deep into technology best practices.

Our services and features are written primarily in Python, Golang, TypeScript, and React, with a focus on security, scalability, stability, and type-first design. Our team develops public REST APIs, solves database scalability challenges, implements data migrations, and enables configuration management across our fleet of services. The R(x) 360 Platform is built on AWS and GCP and utilizes Terraform to define Infrastructure-as-Code across our services and high-throughput data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, test, and maintain software components that support AI/ML models, agentic processes, and data pipelines.
  • Contribute to the monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of algorithms used in model-based behavioral detectors.
  • Participate in agile development processes, code reviews, and technical discussions.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, data scientists, and threat researchers to integrate AI/ML features into the broader product architecture.
  • Implement well-scoped features and technical improvements with limited guidance from senior team members.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while adhering to engineering standards and best practices.
  • Help identify and address technical debt to continually improve our codebase and technical stack.
  • Stay current on the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies to contribute to product enhancements.
  • Assist in the documentation of product features, technical specifications, and engineering guides.
  • Support a culture of curiosity, collaboration, quality, and continuous improvement

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in backend, security, or AI/ML related systems.
  • Solid knowledge of Python, Go, or an equivalent programming language, with strong general programming fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
  • Experience contributing to production AI/ML systems, including data pipelines, model deployment, inference monitoring, or experiment tracking.
  • Familiarity with building distributed, highly available cloud based systems, preferably on AWS.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and agile development practices.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, a self-starter mentality, and the ability to take ownership and deliver well-defined technical tasks.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Desire to grow in the intersection of software engineering, cybersecurity, and AI/Machine Learning

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch, MLflow, LangChain, or DSPy.
  • Experience with cloud services on AWS or Azure (EKS / RDS / S3 / SQS / EC2 / IAM).
  • Experience with infrastructure as a software tooling, such as HashiCorp (Packer, Vault, Terraform).
  • Experience in API development, PostgreSQL database design, or SQL query performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with machine learning applications in cybersecurity or NDR environments.
  • Knowledge of tools and frameworks commonly used in network detection and response.
  • Understanding of threat detection, intrusion prevention, and incident response strategies.

The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $160,000 + bonus + benefits
