Software Developer

Location: Remote - Anywhere in Canada

The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $76,300 - $125,350. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only. The actual base salary offered within this range will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and experience, as well as internal equity.

Empire Life is looking to hire a Software Developer to join our Front Office & Security team! We are actively seeking candidates to fill a current, open position.

What you'll be working on
  • Software development of high quality, production ready applications and API's
  • Deliver working software to production while working with the infrastructure, security and operations teams (aka DevOps) while we build Empire Life's digital platform.
  • Contribute to automated testing with unit, functional and behavioural testing
  • Proactively work with internal network and security teams to monitor applicable applications and services
  • Troubleshoot problems and ensure resolution of issues
  • Research and investigate improvements; analyze and provide findings and recommendations to management
  • Own and improve the systems that power authentication and identity (CIAM) across all applications
  • Maintaining Auth0 integrations, managing configuration as code with Terraform, and building internal tools for support staff
  • Monitoring and debugging auth issues, analyzing user access data, and building tooling
  • Review code, mentor co-ops, and collaborate across teams

What we're looking for you to have
  • 3+ years work experience in full stack web development with practical knowledge and expertise in full stack software development.
  • Completion of a University degree, college diploma, technical training, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, React.js, HTML and CSS.
  • Demonstrated capability with the Django framework.
  • Proficiency in REST API development and database schema design/SQL query development.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Google Cloud Platform, including Google AppEngine, CloudSQL, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions.
  • Hands-on experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment, including Github Actions and Kubernetes deployments.
  • Demonstrated ability in automated testing (unit, functional, and behavioural) and load testing to ensure applications meet agreed-upon SLAs.
  • Ability to properly document delivered software using architectural decision records (ADRs) and OpenAPI specifications.
  • Ability to think logically, solve complex problems, and actively participate in discussions with both technical and business teams.
