Software Developer (Systems Software)

RCS is seeking a Software Developer (Systems Software) for a web development team that will design, develop, and produce media elements and interactions that support clear communication and learner interaction and assessment related to adult learning solutions. Learning solutions may include but are not limited to: graphics, websites, web-tools, online courses, Web-Based Trainings (WBTs), and other artifacts to support online, blended, and face-to-face training. Development efforts will facilitate the mission to support training.

The web developer will be responsible for developing new courses and learning solutions in a variety of delivery modalities: making major revisions to existing courses; establishing standards for the design, development, and evaluation of courses; providing guidance material; and coaching new instructors in course delivery and instructional techniques. The developer will work in a team-oriented environment and consult with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to handle a variety of activities related to curriculum design, development, and training delivery to include but not limited to: needs assessment, instructional-related research and analysis, course and lesson creation, design, development, delivery, assessing and soliciting feedback and programmatic evaluation.

This position requires the candidate to meet specific Security Clearance obligations to work onsite in Chantilly, VA.

What you will do:
  • Work closely with management, instructional design teams, and SME instructors to determine technical requirements for learning solutions.
  • Research, design, develop, document, and implement media products and artifacts in support of training courses.
  • Create training materials such as WBTs, online training courses, online training portals, websites, graphics and visuals for print and online consumption, and video projects: Maintain WBTs, online training courses, online training portals, websites, graphics and visuals for print and online consumption, and video projects.
  • Provide support for WBTs, online training courses, online training portals, websites, graphics and visuals for print and online consumption, and video projects.
  • Support in-class learning technologies such as audience response system.
  • Support general photography needs.
  • Document processes and resources for continuity of operations.
  • Maintain code and processes
  • Use knowledge management repositories.
  • Use project tracking systems and processes.
  • Ensure all activities and products are consistent with the requirements.
  • Comply with all relevant legal restrictions such as accessibility (Section 508), privacy and copyright.

Candidate should be prepared to work in a dynamic environment in support of classroom activities. Must be able to prioritize multiple projects with multiple deadlines. As such, there are deadlines for materials in support of classes that run on fixed dates. Classroom materials can vary, but include everything from PowerPoint slides, to posters, door signs, web site graphics, classroom handouts, and creativity is a huge plus. Many projects require new materials to be produced in ways that engage the end-user, while other projects require adherence to established criteria. Occasionally asked to create something unique (i.e. themed playing cards, special themed flyers, etc.) Often new logos are required, or old ones need updating.

Required Qualifications/Education:
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance with Full Scope Polygraph
    • U.S. Citizenship required (NO EXCEPTIONS).

Demonstrated experience working with the following;
  • Training environment.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Using Joomla site design and site administration.
  • Developing WBTs, online training courses, websites, or other e-learning solutions.
  • Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Bridge, PDF as well as Dreamweaver, After Effects, or other similar software products.
  • Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and HTML
  • MS PowerPoint, MS OneNote, MS Word
  • Solving complex application development problems.
  • Providing advice and recommendations on product design.
  • Adobe Captivate
  • Designing, building, and maintaining websites.
  • Creating print products such as posters, books, and presentation materials.
  • Using content creation and management tools for web design, web development, programming, graphic design, animation, videography, photography and audio recording, editing and distribution.
  • Using JIRA or other IT ticket or work tracking system.
  • Accessing and using images/graphics from ENVATO, Shutterstock, and other subscription platforms.

Nice to Have Qualifications:
  • Degree(s): Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Graphic Design, Multimedia Development, Online Learning, or other related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification(s): UX/UI Ability Certification from an accredited institution.
    Web-based collaboration and document management platforms; task management tools that provide browser-based access for team document libraries, calendars, task lists, alert, and schedules such as SharePoint or other similar software products.
  • Cloud technology networks and systems.
  • Creating motion graphic products.
  • Working with specialists to build training products.
  • General photography.
  • Video production or experience in a video production support role.
  • JavaScript (JS).
  • Graphic design including animation and 3D animation.
