The Work
The Automated Software Test Engineer will support the Missile Defense Agency's GMD Weapon System program by developing, maintaining, and executing automated test capabilities used to verify mission-critical software functionality. The engineer will work with software development, systems engineering, integration, cybersecurity, and test teams to ensure software products meet technical, program, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities may include:
• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated software test scripts, test procedures, and test utilities in support of GWS software verification.
• Analyze software requirements, system requirements, and design documentation to determine appropriate test coverage.
• Develop automated tests using tools, scripting languages, or programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, shell scripting, or similar technologies.
• Support software integration, regression testing, functional testing, performance testing, and verification activities.
• Identify, document, troubleshoot, and support resolution of software defects and test failures.
• Work closely with software engineers, systems engineers, product owners, scrum masters, and test leads to clarify requirements and improve testability.
• Support test planning, test readiness reviews, formal test events, and customer-witnessed verification activities as needed.
• Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, test procedures, and test results.
• Develop or improve automation frameworks, test tools, data analysis scripts, and reporting capabilities.
• Support Agile team activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, retrospectives, and test status reporting.
• Use configuration management, version control, and issue-tracking tools to manage test artifacts and defect reports.
• Analyze test results and communicate technical findings, risks, and issues to team leads and program leadership.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of software test processes, automation coverage, and verification efficiency.
• Ensure test products comply with program engineering standards, quality expectations, and cybersecurity requirements.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
• Professional experience developing, executing, or maintaining software test procedures, automated tests, test scripts, or test tools.
• Experience with one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
• Experience analyzing requirements and developing test cases or test procedures to verify software functionality.
• Experience using Eggplant or other GUI based toolset
• Familiarity with Agile development, and tools such as Git, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, GitLab, Bamboo, or similar development/test tools.
• Ability to work independently with general direction and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
• U.S. government Active secret security clearance.
Desired skills
• Active Top Secret clearance or higher.
• Security+ certification
• Experience supporting missile defense, aerospace, defense, command and control, weapon systems, or other mission-critical software programs.
• Experience with the GMD Weapon System, MDA programs, or system-of-systems test environments.
• Experience developing automated test scripts or frameworks using Python, Java, C++, shell scripting, or similar technologies.
• Experience with regression testing, integration testing, formal verification, or customer-witnessed test events.
• Familiarity with requirements traceability tools such as DOORS or similar requirements management tools.
• Experience with automated test frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, build automation, or DevSecOps testing practices.
• Experience with Linux/Unix environments and command-line tools.
• Experience analyzing logs, test data, system messages, or software outputs to determine pass/fail results.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering, Cameo, interface control documents, or system architecture products.
• Knowledge of cybersecurity testing, secure coding practices, or vulnerability remediation support.
• Experience creating test reports, verification evidence, and formal test documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to improve test automation coverage, reduce manual test effort, and support program schedule commitments.
National Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $93,200 - $164,450. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
Premium Pay Statement
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California, Massachusetts, and New York is $107,300 - $185,840. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate's final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
