Software Architecture - Sr Advisor I

Staff Software Engineer, Backend and PostgreSQL

Role Overview

Finxact is an innovative, enterprise-class, cloud-native banking platform and transaction-processing engine designed to support banks, fintech companies, and embedded-finance providers at scale.

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and evolution of highly scalable backend services and platform capabilities.

This role combines hands-on software engineering with architecture and technical leadership across complex distributed systems. Our backend services are primarily developed in Go, but we welcome experienced engineers with strong expertise in another modern programming language who are interested in becoming proficient in Go.

What You Will Do
  • Design, develop, and evolve scalable, resilient backend services and APIs.
  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across complex software initiatives.
  • Collaborate across engineering, architecture, product, and operations teams to define technical designs and implementation strategies.
  • Design and optimize solutions using PostgreSQL and other relational database technologies for high-volume transactional workloads.
  • Lead application and database modernization and migration initiatives while maintaining availability, performance, data integrity, and security.
  • Design and operate cloud-native applications using containers and Kubernetes.
  • Improve CI/CD, deployment automation, testing, observability, and production-readiness practices.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to improve design, implementation, testing, documentation, and troubleshooting while independently validating generated output.
  • Troubleshoot complex application, API, database, and distributed-system issues.
  • Mentor engineers, influence technical direction across teams, and help establish consistent engineering practices.

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of professional software-engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting production systems.
  • Strong experience developing backend systems in Go or another modern programming language, with the ability and willingness to become productive in Go.
  • Significant experience with software architecture, technical design, and technical leadership across complex or distributed systems.
  • Strong experience designing APIs and service-based architectures.
  • Strong experience with relational databases, SQL, data modeling, performance optimization, partitioning, and data-migration techniques.
  • Experience designing and operating cloud-native applications using containers and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with CI/CD, deployment automation, automated testing, observability, and production troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of distributed-system concepts including scalability, resiliency, availability, concurrency, and failure handling.
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted software-development tools.
  • Ability to translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience, and/or military experience.

Preferred Experience
  • Production experience developing backend services in Go.
  • Strong PostgreSQL experience, including query optimization, indexing, partitioning, replication, replication slots, WAL behavior, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Experience with REST, gRPC, or similar API and service communication technologies.
  • Experience with high-volume transactional or financial-services platforms.
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and technologies such as Kafka.
  • Experience operating services on public cloud platforms.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and automated infrastructure provisioning.
  • Experience with online schema evolution, zero-downtime deployments, and large-scale database migrations.
  • Experience with performance and load testing.
  • Experience defining architecture patterns, engineering standards, or reusable platform capabilities.
  • Experience providing technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience with specification-driven development or similar structured development practices.

Personal Attributes
  • Strong technical curiosity and passion for technology.
  • Comfortable working through complex and ambiguous technical problems.
  • Able to think beyond individual components and understand broader architectural and operational impacts.
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability for reliable production software.
  • Proactive in identifying technical risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Able to balance architectural quality with pragmatic delivery considerations.
  • Strong collaborator who can influence technical direction without relying on formal authority.
  • Passionate about engineering quality, automation, scalability, and continuous improvement.
