Summary

This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, headquartered in Rockville, Maryland.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY

As a Social Science Analyst, you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:

  • Coordinating experts and planning efficient use of resources for survey designs, field procedures, and quality systems.
  • Developing statistical analyses to produce population estimates and variances and applying advanced statistical theory to understand public health and community needs.
  • Evaluating technical and business proposals, drafting recommendations, and preparing written analyses for dissemination through publications, presentations, or scientific venues.
  • Independently initiating, designing, and conducting statistical and epidemiologic studies from conception through final analysis, ensuring work meets agency goals and standards.
  • Implementing survey methods; managing data collection; analyzing major national databases; and interpreting statistical results.
  • Designing and conducting studies and producing written analysis results to inform stakeholders and support prevention-related program improvements.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Basic Qualifications:

You must possess one of the items listed below (A or B or C):

A. Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

C. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year of specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL of the following:

  • Planning and coordinating programs to enhance public health evaluation, quality improvement, and monitoring activities;
  • Developing and implementing analytic systems and methods to evaluate community needs for effectiveness and efficiency;
  • Drafting, reviewing, and editing evaluation and performance reports; and
  • Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting on quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
