The successful candidate will provide systems engineering support to the Space Launch System (SLS) Solid Rocket BoosterKennedy Space Center (KSC) resident management office.
Tasks include but are not limited to:Boosteravionics, pyrotechnic and thrust vector controlsystems hardware insight and oversight,assembly and checkout test support for Booster aft and forward assemblies, acceptancetest supportfor hydraulic pumps,pre-installation test support for pyrotechnic hardware, launch countdown support, perform systemanalyses,supportingtest system hardware/software troubleshooting, design solutions, supporting reviews, working groups and boards, providing periodic status inputs to project and management.
Candidates would be expected to develop expertisein SLSBoosterfabrication, component acceptance testing, pre-transfer test and checkout operationsand participate in anomaly investigations.
The successful candidate will be required to provide leadership and mentor less experienced personnel during development,integration, deployment and operation life cycles.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Education: a bachelors degree (or higher) in engineering.
Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Ph.D., with a minimum of 14 years of experience, mastersdegree with at least 18 years of experience, or bachelor's with at least 20 years of experience.
Candidate must have knowledge of space systems avionics, pyrotechnicandthrust vector control systems,ground and production support equipment,data acquisition systems,verification and validationprocesses, design, trade studies, milestonereviews, interface definition, change management, risk management, and safety. Candidates will be able to review avionics, pyrotechnic and thrust vector controlproducts and provide relevant feedback, have good coordination and communication skills, be pro-active, multitask andaccomplish tasks with minimal supervision.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience with boostersubsystemsdesired but not required. Experience withDewesoftandNX(or equivalent).
Essential Functions
Work Environment:
This work will be done at Kennedy Space Center.
Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).
Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines:
Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:
Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
Other Essential Functions:
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
