Full Job Description
Position Summary

The Site Lead will provide clinical leadership for the Medical Inpatients Section (Hospitalist Program) at the assigned site.

Accountabilities / Deliverables
The Site Lead will, in a competent and professional manner:

1. Quality Patient Care

a. Actively manage a team of Hospitalist physicians to provide high quality inpatient clinical services at Peter Lougheed Centre.

b. Support the development of clinical practice guidelines or care pathways for the top diagnostic conditions in family medicine.

c. Participate in quality, safety, flow and capacity initiatives upon request of the Family Medicine Medical Inpatients Section Chief and facilitate their implementation.

d. Facilitate a regular continuing medical education (CME) program for the Peter Lougheed Centre hospitalist team.

e. Participate in professional relationship building and communication with community physicians and other family physicians providing acute care.

f. Develop and maintain close relationships with key Hospitalist program partners (e.g., Emergency, Internal Medicine, Mental Health).

g. Coordinate quality assurance activities including all aspects of medical audit delegated to the Department of Family Medicine and specific to the Hospitalist program.

h. Review and manage patient concerns, complaints and incidents involving hospitalists at Peter Lougheed Centre. Ensure appropriate resolution.

i. Liaise with applicable primary care networks for family medicine acute care service delivery activities at Peter Lougheed Centre.

2. Teaching
a. Actively support processes to ensure high-quality medical education is provided for undergraduate, post-graduate and continuing medical education students in accordance with the requirements of the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine.

3. Operations Management
a. Participate in Department of Family Medicine strategic planning.

b. Support the goals and objectives of the Department of Family Medicine and the Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services.

c. Actively participate in developing the goals, objectives, priority activities, performance measures and targets for the Medical Inpatients Care Section of the Department of Family Medicine.

d. Manage the physician resources of the program to ensure an on-call schedule provides continuous access to hospitalist services at Peter Lougheed Centre.

e. Orient new hospitalists to the program model and billing.

f. Ensure the resources of the Hospitalist program are utilized in a cost effective and efficient manner.

g. Review monthly activity data and other evaluative data to establish benchmarks and measurement of the Hospitalist program in collaboration with the Manager, Hospitalist Program.

h. Coordinate the establishment, review and revision of policies, procedures and guidelines relating to patient care and program delivery (including orientation manual).

i. Regularly plan and execute a standardized peer review process for each hospitalist.

Other duties as assigned by the Medical Inpatient Care Section Chief after consultation.
• Recent experience providing most-responsible physician care in the Hospitalist Program of the Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services
• Leadership experience in managing programs an asset
• Excellent communication skills
