Description

To support the delivery of simulation-based training services at 19 Wing Comox, British Columbia, CAE is seeking a Simulator Technician to join the Simulator Services team. Reporting to the CMLU Group Leader, this role supports the reliability, readiness, and continuous improvement of advanced flight simulation training devices supporting the CH149 Cormorant Mid-Life Upgrade (CMLU) program. The position primarily supports the CMLU program and may also support the CC295 Fixed Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) program based on operational requirements.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead assigned maintenance shifts and support the coordination of daily maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and on-the-job training to Simulator Technicians I and II.
  • Support the development and qualification of junior technicians through skills development and knowledge transfer activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for complex maintenance and system issues.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of maintenance practices, troubleshooting procedures, and operational processes.
  • Coordinate maintenance priorities with the CMLU Integration Specialist, Simulator Operations Specialist, and Logistics Coordinator to support simulator availability and operational readiness.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on simulators and associated systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex hardware, software, electrical, electronic, mechanical, and avionics-related simulator faults.
  • Lead Qualification Test Guide (QTG) testing activities and evaluate results.
  • Maintain simulator readiness and availability in support of training delivery requirements.
  • Use the Training Centre Maintenance System (TCMS) to plan, document, track, and report maintenance activities.
  • Support engineering modifications, upgrades, and software enhancements.
  • Lead or support technical improvement projects.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and fault isolation on simulator systems and associated equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Support logistics activities, including receipt of parts, repairs, testing, and validation activities.
  • Provide responsive and professional customer support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of direct simulator maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant operational experience.
  • Demonstrated experience performing advanced troubleshooting and fault isolation on complex technical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with software diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.
  • Proficiency in soldering and circuit board repair.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain Controlled Goods Program registration.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a NATO Secret security clearance.
  • Ability to work rotating schedules, extended shifts, and occasional weekends as operational requirements dictate.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and varied working positions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform maintenance activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger movements associated with technical maintenance activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma, certificate, military occupation qualification, or degree in Electronics, Electrical Technology, Avionics, Aerospace Engineering Technology, Aircraft Maintenance, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting CAE simulator systems or equivalent flight simulation devices.
  • Experience leading maintenance activities or coordinating technical teams.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching technical personnel.
  • Advanced experience conducting simulator qualification or acceptance testing.
  • Experience supporting engineering modifications, upgrades, or software enhancements.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Experience supporting military aviation training systems or operations.

Base Pay Range

Our total rewards package includes base pay and benefits, with final compensation determined by experience, skill, location, and internal equity.

$68,500 - $102,700CAD
