Description

As a Silviculture Superintendent, you will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and monitoring of Conifex's full silviculture program. This is a leadership role suited to an experienced professional who can manage contractors, mentor a team of supervisors, and ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective delivery of all reforestation and stand management activities.

Working closely with our Planning and Harvesting teams, you will help ensure long-term forest management objectives are met while upholding Conifex's commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainable forest management.

Duties
  • Drive Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards, FRPA, and Conifex policies across all silviculture activities.
  • Silviculture Program Management: Plan, implement, and monitor all phases of the silviculture program including site preparation, planting, brushing, regeneration surveys, and free-growing declarations.
  • Manage Contractors: Provide clear direction and oversight to silviculture contractors, with a focus on safety performance, quality of work, and environmental standards.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong relationships with contractors, First Nations representatives, local government, communities, and other industry partners.
  • Team Development: Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to Silviculture Supervisors, supporting their professional growth and fostering a positive, high-performance culture.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Participate in the development of annual budgets and rolling monthly outlook projections to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Administration & Reporting: Oversee data management, reporting, and compliance documentation including RESULTS submissions and free-growing obligations.


Qualifications
  • Education: A University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry or Natural Resource Management (RPF or RFT designation preferred).
  • Experience: At least 7 years of experience in forestry, including experience supervising Silviculture operations.
  • Skills:

Excellent leadership and communication skills

Strong project management capabilities

In-depth knowledge of BC forestry legislation, FRPA, and silviculture policies

Proficiency in silviculture software (e.g., RESULTS, LRM, Plant Wizard, SNAP)

Strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors!
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with BC forestry legislation, SFI certification requirements, and best practices in sustainable forest management.
