Full Job Description
Location: Cleveland, OH

Cleveland-Cliffs Steel LLC has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager Powerhouse position at our Cleveland, OH plant. This front-line leadership role is responsible for coordinating safe, reliable, and efficient powerhouse operations while leading hourly employees in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. The Shift Manager Powerhouse oversees operating activities, supports equipment reliability, ensures compliance with safety and environmental requirements, and works closely with maintenance and production personnel to meet operational objectives.

The Shift Manager Powerhouse serves as a key link between hourly personnel, maintenance teams, and plant leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable utility generation and distribution operations.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards; conduct safety audits, inspections, and follow-up activities in a timely manner.
  • Provide leadership and direction to hourly employees while maintaining accountability for safe work practices, operating procedures, and environmental requirements.
  • Monitor operating conditions and work with production and maintenance teams to address operational issues and drive safe, efficient performance.
  • Schedule, supervise, and lead hourly operating and maintenance personnel, working directly with employees in the field and from the Shift Manager's office.
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams, planners, and schedulers to prioritize corrective and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Train, coach, and develop employees while fostering a fair and respectful work environment focused on safety, teamwork, and operational excellence.
  • Oversee the safe and reliable operation of powerhouse equipment and utility systems, including steam generation and distribution, compressed air, and water treatment systems.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot utility system and equipment issues to support plant reliability and ensure uninterrupted utility services to manufacturing operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, power generation, utilities, or military environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, within a 24/7 operating environment; extended hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in a hot, dusty industrial environment and perform physical requirements including climbing stairs and ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and exposure to databases.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current Ohio Third Class Stationary Engineer License.
  • Prior experience in a powerhouse, utility, or power generation environment.
  • Three or more years of leadership experience in a unionized heavy industrial, power generation, utilities, manufacturing, or military environment.
  • Prior steel mill experience strongly preferred.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $110,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
