Position Overview: Service Engineer (Levels 1-3)
The Field Service Engineer (FSE) role at this company is responsible for the technical health of sophisticated semiconductor capital equipment at customer sites. This position involves high-level troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and the execution of complex equipment installations. FSEs serve as the primary technical interface between company and its customers, ensuring operational excellence in fast-paced manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Execution: Provide expert repair and preventive maintenance for complex electromechanical and electronic systems.
  • Installation & Deployment: Lead or support the installation, relocation, and start-up of equipment, ensuring systems meet exact performance specifications.
  • Systems Diagnosis: Utilize advanced diagnostic procedures to isolate malfunctions, minimize system downtime, and resolve equipment failures.
  • Technical Reporting: Maintain comprehensive records, including service reports and "As-Built" documentation, to ensure continuity across global engineering teams.
  • Professional Mentorship: (Level 3) Provide technical guidance and mentoring for Level 1 and 2 Engineers, ensuring the development of the broader technical team.
  • Industry Standards: Adhere to strict cleanroom protocols and safety standards while remaining current on equipment upgrades through ongoing technical training.

Qualifications & Experience Levels: Proficiency in reading electrical + mechanical schematics. Strong foundation using diagnostic tools + system troubleshooting + electronic and electrical theory.
  • FSE Level 1: Bachelor's or associate degree in electronics/engineering + experience -or- equivalent military training & exp with 2-3 years of hands-on capital equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • FSE Level 2: Semicon experience -or- equivalent military training & exp with 4-6 years of hands-on capital equipment troubleshooting and repair. Technical or Eng BS or AS degree a plus.
  • FSE Level 3: Semicon experience -or- equivalent military training & exp with 7+ years of hands-on capital equipment troubleshooting and repair. Technical or Eng BS or AS degree a plus.
  • Cleanroom Operations: Ability to perform technical tasks in a confined cleanroom environment while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Physical Requirements: Capacity for prolonged periods of bending, stooping, and standing while working on complex equipment.

Shift Structure: 3/4 Compressed Work Week
Company utilizes a "3/4" shift pattern (3 days on, 4 days off, 4 days on, 3 days off). Overtime is paid for hours worked over 40 hours a week. Even though the annual pay hours are higher than a standard 40-hour week (2,288 vs 2,080), employees work only half the days of the year (182 days).
  • The Short Week: 3 days on (36 hours) with 4 days off.
  • The Long Week: 4 days on (48 hours) with 3 days off.
    • Note: The Long Week includes 40 regular hours + 8 hours of OT.

Example: Annual Compensation Calculator
Bi-weekly pay is calculated based on 88 "pay hours" (36 hours from the short week + 40 regular hours and 12 OT hours from the long week). Companies use 26 pay periods in a year.
  • Formula: 88 hours (bi-weekly) x 26 Pay Periods = 2,288 Annual Pay Hours
  • Calculation: 2,288 x Hourly Wage = Annual Gross Salary

Shift Rotations (12 hours, 30-min shift turnover):
  • Front End Day: Sun, Mon, Tue, and every other Wed (5:15 am - 5:45 pm)
  • Front End Night: Sun, Mon, Tue, and every other Wed (5:15 pm - 5:45 am)
  • Back End Day: Thurs, Fri, Sat, and every other Wed (5:15 am - 5:45 pm)
  • Back End Night: Thurs, Fri, Sat, and every other Wed (5:15 pm - 5:45 am)
    • *there is a shift differential for working nights
