DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a
Sr. Principal Structural Engineer. This position will be located located in
Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

As part of the Sentinel AVE team, your technical expertise and analytical prowess will play a vital role in structural analysis. This position invites a forward-thinking professional who is eager to tackle complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions that advance the future of structural analysis for the Sentinel Program.
Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science or STEM with 8 years of experience; or Master's degree with 6 years of experience; or PhD with 4 years of experience.
Must be a US Citizen with an active DoD Secret Clearance with investigation date within 5 years.
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g. systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated technical writing experience in both authoring and reviewing formal analysis documentation.
Knowledge and/or experience with structural analysis.
Experience using CAD software to clean up geometry for analysis.
Experience in Finite Element Analysis with Nastran (or equivalent).
Experience in performing Bolted Joint Analyses per NASA STD 5020.
Experience running static and dynamic structural problems using analytical methods (hand calculations, in-house tools, and 3rd party commercial analytical tools) .
Experience in the thermal analysis of aerospace systems.
Basic knowledge of Heat Transfer methods and principles.
Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent from an accredited college/university.
Experience working strategic or tactical missile programs or spacecraft.
Experience with Thermal Desktop.
DoD Top Secret Clearance.
Proficiency with ABAQUS, FEMAP, and ANSYS.
Exposure to structural test applications.
Experience with seismic analysis (ASCE 7).
Exposure to missiles program requirements & with propulsion.
Navigate through NX 3D models.
TeamCenter CPLM experience.
Existing Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
