Full Job Description
The Senior Underwriter - Specialty Programs, is responsible for underwriting and managing business within the agency's national specialty insurance programs offered through our own wholesale distribution channel, including supporting programs at various stages of development, implementation, and maturity, requiring the ability to balance sound underwriting judgment with operational flexibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Evaluates new and renewal submissions across assigned national specialty programs by analyzing exposures, pricing, coverage, and risk characteristics to determine acceptability, ensuring underwriting decisions align with program and agency objectives.
  • Issues quotes, binders, endorsements, and policy documentation within delegated underwriting authority that drive profitable revenue growth.
  • Participates in the development, implementation, enhancement, scalability, and continuous improvement of national specialty insurance programs and products by developing underwriting guidelines, workflows, and operational procedures for emerging programs.
  • Monitors underwriting results, loss trends, and portfolio performance to ensure profitability while maintaining compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies, recommending corrective actions based on portfolio analysis and shifting market conditions.
  • Leverages advanced reporting to drive underwriting strategy discussions, providing detailed feedback to improve programs, products, forms, pricing, and service delivery.
  • Attends and participates in internal meetings and completes required training.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
  • Reports to the VP, Underwriting & Market Placement; does not lead a team.


EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
  • An active P&C producer license is required.
  • An active E&S license is strongly preferred.
  • Professional designation such as a CPCU, AU, or AINS is preferred.


EXPERIENCE
  • 7+ years of P&C underwriting experience, preferably within a national specialty program business, wholesale brokerage firm, or MGA environment.
  • Strong knowledge of P&C coverages, underwriting principles, and risk assessment.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple programs and products in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Proficiency with underwriting and agency management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
