Job DescriptionWhat We're Looking For: Michael Baker is seeking a
Traffic Engineer/Project Manager to join our Transportation team. In this role, you will support a variety of transportation projects involving traffic operations, roadway safety, traffic signal design, ITS, roadway lighting, signing and pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic (MOT).
The successful candidate will perform traffic analyses, develop engineering designs, prepare technical reports, and contribute to projects from planning through final design. This position offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams while helping deliver innovative solutions that improve mobility and safety.
What You'll Do: - Perform traffic operations evaluations, safety assessments, and traffic signal timing analysis.
- Design traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), roadway lighting, signing and pavement marking plans, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
- Prepare engineering calculations, cost estimates, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Analyze data and develop recommendations to support transportation planning and engineering decisions.
- Review and interpret engineering plans, specifications, standards, and technical reports.
- Prepare and review plans, calculations, and project deliverables to ensure quality and compliance with applicable standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, clients, and agency stakeholders throughout project development.
- Support project delivery while applying sound engineering judgment and problem-solving skills.
What You Need to Succeed: - Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 8+ years' experience in a Traffic Engineering related position with increased responsibilities
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in CA or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment
- Experience preparing Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages.
- Experience with CAD design platforms, including AutoCAD and MicroStation, for the preparation of traffic engineering, ITS, signing and striping, and roadway improvement plans.
- Knowledge of traffic signal design, ITS systems, traffic modeling, and safety analysis.
- Strong knowledge of traffic signal systems, ITS, and roadway design coordination
- Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex projects
- Strong analytical, technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with DOT, municipal, or transportation agency projects.
Compensation: The approximate compensation range for this position is 125,000 - $196,000 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
