DESCRIPTION
THE POSITION

This is an exciting time for the City, with the extent of ongoing and upcoming construction, the City desires an experienced and motivated team-player that is up to the task of carrying forward the City's priorities and vision throughout all public and private construction projects.
Reporting to the Deputy Public Works Director, the Senior Traffic Engineer is one of twelve members of the department's management team. The Senior Traffic Engineer serves as the Transportation Engineering Division Manager, leading a team of five fulltime technical and professional staff. The Division is responsible for transportation planning, traffic engineering, traffic safety for all modes of travel, traffic calming, private development review process related to traffic engineering, and responding to traffic requests and inquiries. This requires a substantial level of professional traffic engineering training and experience and the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The Transportation Engineering Division's annual operating budget is approximately $1.1 million in addition to several capital projects and grant funds.

Key initiatives for this coming year include continued solicitation and evaluation of Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program (NTCP) applications, completing corridor studies of Jefferson Street and Redwood Road funded by the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant program, and supporting updates of various County-wide transportation planning documents.

This position is integral in exercising the City's values in the work they oversee and interactions they have with stakeholders, staff, and the community.

A combination of education and experience for this position includes a Bachelor's degree or equivalent with major work in Traffic, Transportation or Civil Engineering or a closely related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a professional engineer in Traffic or Transportation Engineering, including supervisory responsibilities. Registration as a Professional Traffic Engineer or Civil Engineer in the State of California with good standing is required.
