Job Description:

1.0 Position Objective

ITW Drawform is seeking an experienced Senior Toolroom Toolmaker – Wire EDM to manufacture, repair, modify, and maintain precision tooling components, fixtures, gages, and die details for high-volume deep draw stamping operations. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on toolmaking experience with expertise in Wire EDM setup, programming, operation, blueprint reading, and precision measurement, and will help train and guide apprentice toolmakers.

2.0 Essential Functions

  • Set up, program, and operate Wire EDM equipment to produce close-tolerance tooling components, including punches, dies, inserts, forms, fixtures, gages, and die details.
  • Manufacture, repair, modify, and maintain precision tooling components for deep draw stamping operations using Wire EDM and standard toolroom equipment as needed.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, tooling drawings, CAD/CAM files, written instructions, verbal instructions, or existing parts to be copied, repaired, or modified.
  • Plan EDM and toolroom setups considering material type, tolerances, surface finish, wire size, offsets, skim cuts, flushing, workholding, feeds, speeds, and required inspection methods.
  • Inspect work before, during, and after machining or EDM operations using precision measuring and gauging tools.
  • Support tooling repair and improvement activities to improve tooling reliability, quality, uptime, and tool life.
  • Train and guide apprentice toolmakers in safe work practices, blueprint reading, precision measurement, Wire EDM setup, and tool manufacturing methods.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.

3.0 Qualifications

  • Minimum 10+ years of toolroom, tool & die, precision machining, or Wire EDM experience preferred.
  • Strong Wire EDM setup, programming, and operation experience required. Sodick WDEM experience is a plus
  • CAD/CAM, Wire EDM offsets, skim cuts, taper cutting, carbide, tool steel, and hardened material experience preferred. MasterCAM 25 experience is a plus
  • Experience manufacturing close-tolerance tooling components, punches, dies, inserts, fixtures, gages, and die details required.
  • Strong blueprint reading, mechanical aptitude, and precision measurement skills required.
  • Experience with standard toolroom equipment such as mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and saws preferred.
  • Journeyman Toolmaker or Tool & Die Maker certification preferred.
  • Ability to lift approximately 40 60 pounds on a regular basis.
