Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a highly organized and passionate individual to join our Testing Team as the Senior Test Engineer at our Dayton, Ohio location. This role will be responsible for the execution of equipment and system level testing at 3rd party test houses in the mid-west region to support Joby objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for executing internal and external test campaigns for the assigned system/ sub-system and component by following Joby processes and/or procedures
  • Lead discussion with Integrated Product Team (IPT), Design For Reliability (DFR) or other stakeholders to understand testing needs, milestones & deliverables and manage associated activities using Joby test processes to execute them
  • Create test stand and test equipment requirements to support product and reliability testing, and work with internal and external test sites to ensure test capabilities are adequate to meet Joby testing requirements
  • Commission functional test setups and reliability test stands to exercise functions of the equipment and/or system during DO-160, reliability, durability, or similar testing
  • Collaborate with the Test Equipment Design team to provide test engineering support, test equipment fabrication support, or requirements clarification for internally developed test assets
  • Work with external vendors to specify, procure, install, and commission test equipment onsite; manage vendor technical coordination to ensure equipment meets Joby test requirements
  • Facilitate on-site visits for Joby personnel visiting from other sites (SMEs, Test Engineers, DERs as applicable) to support test effort


Required

  • B. S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline with 8+ years of work experience in relevant industry performing testing related activities
  • Willing to travel, regular traveling in-state or out-of-state required for this position and will be > 25% to test site locations within the United States
  • Hands-on experience with performance verification, environmental qualification, and reliability testing of airborne electronic hardware or similar products
  • Experience testing hardware to DO-160, MIL-STD-810, reliability, durability, life-cycle, or similar environmental and reliability standards
  • Practical experience in using miscellaneous lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, NI DAQ systems, power analyzers, power supplies etc
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with strong analytical background
  • Very strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Expertise in using Python/ MATLAB/ NI Diadem to aid in data collection and analysis
  • High attention to detail


Desired

  • Experience with LabView for Data Acquisition and potentially automation (invoking desired equipment functions at different conditions)
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques (non-destructive) and processes (FRACAS, etc.)

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $107,000 - $148,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
