Chevron's Geophysics Center of Excellence is seeking a highly experienced technical geophysicist to strengthen our Quantitative Interpretation and 4D (QI/4D) team, with a specific focus on land assets. This role is centered on quantitative interpretation and, most importantly, on deploying geophysical products to end users and ensuring those products are fully exploited to maximize subsurface value.

The successful candidate will bring 15-20 years of industry experience and a proven track record that already includes planning seismic surveys, overseeing seismic data processing and imaging, and building rock physics models. Rather than performing those upstream activities as the primary duty, the geophysicist will draw on that deep background to deliver, integrate, and champion QI products, so that end users, from exploration and development teams through drilling and completions, extract full value from the data. The position requires a seasoned practitioner who works independently, sets technical direction, mentors others, and communicates effectively across technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Quantitative Interpretation Delivery
  • Lead the delivery of quantitative interpretation products across land assets, including rock physics modeling, seismic inversion, elastic-property estimation (Vp, Vs, density), and seismic attribute analysis.
  • Perform and QC well ties, wavelet extraction, synthetic generation, fluid substitution, AVO modeling, and tuning analysis that underpin robust QI outputs.
  • Ensure QI products are physically consistent, well-calibrated, and fit for purpose for the decisions they support.

Product Deployment to End Users
  • Deploy geophysical and QI products out to end users, including asset exploration and development teams and drilling and completions groups, translating technical outputs into decision-ready insight.
  • Partner closely with interpreters, geologists, petrophysicists, and reservoir and drilling engineers to embed QI products into their workflows and models.
  • Provide training, documentation, and hands-on guidance so end users can confidently apply and interpret the products delivered.

Ensuring Full Exploitation of Geophysical Products
  • Act as a steward for the data and products, ensuring every geophysical asset, from seismic volumes to inversion and attribute products, is fully exploited rather than under-utilized.
  • Identify gaps where available data or products are not being leveraged and drive their uptake to unlock additional subsurface value.
  • Apply elastic properties and attributes to reservoir characterization, lithology and fluid discrimination, and uncertainty quantification in support of end-user objectives.

Exploration, Development & Well Delivery Support
  • Support exploration prospect evaluation and de-risking, and provide QI input to development decisions, reservoir model constraint, and 4D screening where applicable.
  • Apply geophysical knowledge to support drilling and completions, including seismic-based pore pressure prediction.
  • Deliver depth prognosis and time-to-depth conversion for accurate well landing, with associated depth uncertainty analysis.

Technical Leadership & Mentoring
  • Set technical direction and standards for QI workflows; peer review and QC the work of others.
  • Mentor and coach junior geophysicists and partner effectively with ENGINE and business-unit practitioners.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Geophysics, Geology, Physics, or a related Earth Science discipline.
  • 15-20 years of relevant industry experience in technical geophysics, including demonstrated land operations experience.
  • Demonstrated depth in quantitative interpretation: rock physics model development, seismic inversion, elastic-property utilization, and seismic attribute analysis.
  • Prior hands-on experience planning seismic surveys and overseeing seismic data processing and imaging, sufficient to understand product provenance, quality, and limitations.
  • Track record deploying geophysical products to end users and driving their full utilization in support of business decisions.
  • Experience supporting both exploration and development objectives, including applying geophysics to drilling and completions, pore pressure prediction, and depth prognosis for well landing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple basins and both conventional and unconventional land plays.
  • Familiarity with industry QI and interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Hampson-Russell, Jason) and processing/imaging environments.
  • Experience with 4D seismic feasibility, geomechanics integration, and mechanical earth model support.
  • Application of ML/AI to accelerate reservoir characterization and workflow automation.
