Opportunity Overview

The Reconciliation and Tax Team Leader is responsible for leading a team that manages both operational reconciliation functions and tax production activities. This role ensures the accurate and timely completion of reconciliations, tax reporting, and regulatory obligations while maintaining compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules, regulations, and policies. The leader serves as a subject matter expert in Canadian taxation and operational controls, driving process improvements, mitigating risk, and ensuring a high standard of service and accuracy across all functions.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and develop a team of reconciliation and tax production specialists.
  • Establish performance expectations, monitor results, and provide ongoing feedback and support.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and client-focused service.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex reconciliation and tax-related issues.
Tax Compliance & CRA Regulatory Oversight
  • Provide expert guidance on CRA rules, regulations, and tax legislation.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of tax forms, filings, remittances, and related reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian tax regulations, including payroll taxes, GST/HST, withholding taxes, and other applicable tax obligations.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess business impacts, and implement necessary procedural updates.
  • Manage CRA audits, reviews, assessments, inquiries, and information requests.
Reconciliation Operations
  • Oversee daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation activities across operational and tax-related accounts.
  • Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with established controls and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain reconciliation processes, reporting, and controls to support operational efficiency and minimize risk.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and business stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and improve data integrity.
  • Oversee all reconciliation audit activities, including the preparation, review, and delivery of supporting documentation for internal, external, client, and regulatory audits. Ensure audit findings are investigated, corrective actions are implemented, and reconciliation controls are continuously enhanced to mitigate operational and financial risk.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and reconciliation metrics to ensure service level agreements and operational objectives are achieved.
Risk Management & Process Improvement
  • Identify operational, financial, and regulatory risks and implement appropriate controls.
  • Lead initiatives to improve reconciliation accuracy, tax compliance processes, and overall operational effectiveness.
  • Drive automation and continuous improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support strategic business initiatives and regulatory requirements.


Position Requirements

  • Canadian Securities licensing (preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in an Operations environment with proven experience leading complex operational teams with significant financial, regulatory, and client service risk, preferably within account transfers, mutual funds, or similar brokerage operations.
  • Knowledge of CRA regulations preferred.
  • 3+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Strong people leadership and talent development experience, with the ability to lead, coach, and develop diverse teams.
