Baker Tilly, one of the fastest growing CPA advisory firms in the nation, has an incredible career opportunity for an Oil & Gas Upstream Sovereign Royalty and Severance Tax Experienced Associate to join our growing State & Local Tax (SALT) practice in Houston, TX.

Our SALT practice is made up of 100+ professionals across the U.S., providing a full spectrum of services including Income & Franchise tax, Sales & Use tax, Real & Personal Property tax, Production Taxes and Sovereign Royalties, Unclaimed Property and Voluntary Disclosure & Remediation by industry needs. As a member of this talented team, you will help clients capitalize on strategic ideas and planning techniques that ensure federal, state and local compliance, reduce expenses and enhance cash flow.

What you'll do:
  • Be a trusted advisor to middle market and Fortune 500 clients by providing strategic consulting services that lower their compliance costs, ensure they are reporting correctly and provide value across the spectrum of federal, tribal and state royalties and production taxes.
  • This includes: Research state severance tax issues including valuation, reporting requirements, post-production cost deduction, and applicable incentives.
  • Provide guidance to clients on various compliance matters including state, federal, and tribal sovereign royalties.
  • Review client product valuation and reporting practices to ensure compliant reporting and identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency.
  • Assist in preparing client monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance returns.
  • Assist in providing client support related to state, federal, or tribal audit items.
  • Assist in providing client support in other areas of upstream oil and gas taxation.
  • Prepare memoranda on federal, tribal, and state compliance issues for individuals, corporations, partnerships and LLCs
  • Identify, communicate, and implement process improvements in firm or customer compliance functions.
  • Maintain active communication with management team to enable them to manage client expectations and ensure their satisfaction.
  • Learn and grow from direct on the job coaching and mentoring along with participating in firm wide learning and development programs
  • Utilize your entrepreneurial skills to network and build strong relationships internally and externally with clients and other industry professionals

Successful candidates will have:
  • 4-year degree, License eligible required
  • Actively pursuing CPA, COPAS APA, or post-graduate related education preferred
  • Three (3) + year(s) experience in accounting, professional services firm required
  • An eagerness to work on a variety of Upstream Oil & Gas consulting projects
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S., without sponsorship, highly preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office tools
  • Must be highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks in a complex, dynamic environment
  • Work within tight deadlines and take responsibility for getting the job done in a timely manner
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments and manage time
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team of professionals
  • Display professional and competent demeanor

The pay rate range for this position is listed below. Actual compensation is influenced by a variety of relevant factors including but not limited to applicant's skills, prior experience, qualifications, degrees, professional certifications, work arrangements and geographic location. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.

In Houston, TX: pay rate range is $87,110.00 -$114,350.00.
