Job Title: Senior Tax Advisor
Reports To: Vice President, Finance
Location: Calgary, AB
As the primary tax resource for the company, the Senior Tax Advisor position is responsible for Source's North American tax planning, compliance and reporting requirements. In addition, this role is also responsible for the direct and indirect taxes, along with overall tax related research and strategy. The successful candidate will be looked to as the expert in all things tax related, while working closely with the broader accounting and finance team to ensure timely and accurate results.
Position deliverables: Compliance:- Responsible for the timely completion and filing of all Canadian and US taxes including corporate and partnership returns and indirect tax returns
- Support external audits of both Canadian and US revenue agencies
- Calculation and payment of installments and filing extensions
- Ongoing research and documentation of individual issues arising from changes in legislation or business activities
- In-depth knowledge of direct and indirect tax
- Coordination of external advisors where required
Tax Provision:- Preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provisions
- Accounting research and implementation of new standards with respect to taxation issues
- Monitor changes in Canada, and the US and conclude on the impact to tax provision
- Maintain continued collaboration and communication with the finance team to ensure the impact of new accounting issues are considered from a tax perspective
Planning:- Analytical review and modeling support for the financial planning and commercial development teams
- Participation in the identification and analysis of tax planning ideas, including annual transfer price project
Other:- Responsible for annual compliance reporting under Alberta's Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) program
- Account reconciliations; GST filings; notice of assessments or reassessment evaluation; property tax management; maintenance of tax calendar and managing regulatory communications
- Assist in the automation and streamlining of the company's tax provision models
- Assist with and advise on other ad hoc projects as required
What Will Help You Succeed:We are looking for individuals with a hardworking attitude, who have working knowledge of tools and mechanics. Individuals must be self-motivated and adaptable to change. Other things that will help you succeed in this role include:
- A professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA)
- Completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course
- Minimum five years of Canadian income tax experience
- Experience with and a working knowledge of United States and International income taxation matters would be considered an asset
- Hardworking attitude, with strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
- Self-motivated and adaptable to change
- Prior experience in dealing with taxation authorities and supporting taxation audits
- Conversant with taxation financial reporting concepts
- Monitor and analyze developments and interpretations of US Federal and State income tax issues as they impact the company
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with management, staff, and external service providers
- A team player who can work both independently as well as in a team setting

- Demonstrated ability to investigate and provide solutions to various tax and other business issues
