The Senior IT Systems Administrator provides technical leadership to the Server team to manage, support and optimize server operating systems, hardware, storage, virtual infrastructure, and enterprise backups.
Duties: Under the direction of the Infrastructure Manager, responsibilities include the following:
- Provides technical leadership on Server and Storage related issues.
- Acts as an incident coordinator and escalation point for relevant technical issues.
- Provides technical oversight to IT Change Management process by co-ordinating and reviewing relevant changes.
- Develops and Documents Team specific Policy, Processes, Procedures and Standards
- Coordinates or Project Manages projects within Server Team
- Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures. Contributes to and maintains system standards.
- Researches and recommends innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identifies approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
- Installs new / rebuilds existing servers and configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrades administrative tools and utilities. Configures / adds new services as necessary.
- Performs daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
- Performs daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Repairs and recovers from hardware or software failures. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies.
- Performs periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.
- Performs ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configures CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
- Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the manager
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited institution. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of IT experience and 4 years of current, relevant and directly related experience.
- Relevant Operating Systems and other relevant industry certification.
- Demonstrated strengths in Windows and Linux System Administration
- Demonstrated strengths in large scale virtual deployment administration
- Excellent understanding of storage systems
- Excellent understanding of enterprise backup systems
- Excellent understanding of Active Directory and MS Exchange
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to produce and maintain high quality technical documentation.
- Ability to conduct research, produce reports and make appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, requiring proficiency in multitasking, prioritizing and meeting deadlines.
- Willingness to travel, as required to other local campuses.

- Experience in NetApp administration
