Summary

Position Summary

The Senior Supply Chain Manager is responsible for overseeing all inbound and outbound logistics activities for a composite decking and railing manufacturing facility. This hands-on role ensures the efficient receipt of raw materials, packaging, and supplies, as well as the accurate and timely shipment of finished products to customers. The manager leads logistics personnel, maintains inventory accuracy, coordinates transportation providers, and drives continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cost, and service. The Senior Manager Supply Chain serves as a key leader, coach, and mentor, reinforcing Lean Manufacturing principles and the Hardie™ Manufacturing Operating System (HMOS) to drive employee engagement, standardization, operational consistency, and overall performance improvement.

What You'll Do:

Safety & Compliance
  • Champion a ZERO Harm culture and ensure full compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Actively take part in and support safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations
  • Enforce adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and ensure the safe operation of all equipment.

Shipping Operations
  • Manage all outbound shipping activities, including order fulfillment, staging, loading, documentation, and carrier coordination.
  • Ensure finished decking, railing, and accessory products are shipped accurately and on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain shipping schedules to meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Optimize freight utilization, trailer loading, and transportation costs.
  • Monitor carrier performance and resolve shipping delays or service issues.
  • Ensure compliance with customer routing guides and transportation requirements.

Receiving Operations
  • Ensure receiving documentation is accurate and promptly entered into ERP/WMS systems.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, production, and quality departments regarding material availability and discrepancies.
  • Manage unloading operations while maintaining safety and efficiency standards.
  • Investigate and resolve receiving discrepancies, damaged shipments, and supplier issues.

Finished Goods & Inventory Management
  • Direct logistics operations, including storage, inventory control, and material handling.
  • Establish and enforce inventory management procedures and finished goods organization standards.
  • Optimize finished goods layout and storage utilization to maximize efficiency and throughput.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of composite materials, additives, and finished products.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, coach, train, and develop shipping, receiving, forklift, and warehouse personnel.
  • Schedule labor resources to meet operational demands while controlling costs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Support employee training on safety procedures, equipment operation, and quality standards.

Logistics & Transportation
  • Manage relationships with freight carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers.
  • Negotiate transportation rates and service agreements when applicable.
  • Monitor freight expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Track key logistics metrics, including on-time delivery, freight costs, inventory accuracy, and productivity.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound transportation to minimize disruptions to production and customer deliveries.

Continuous Improvement (LEAN / HMOS Hardie Manufacturing Operating System)
  • Coach and mentor leaders and frontline team members to strengthen and scale HMOS capabilities.
  • Drive active engagement in the Daily Management System (DMS), including KPI tracking and tiered accountability meetings.
  • Lead efforts to identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiency and optimize costs.
  • Reinforce standard work and promote process consistency across the logistics functional area.
  • Lead and take part in continuous improvement initiatives and structured problem-solving activities.


What You'll Bring:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.

Experience
  • 5+ years of logistics, warehouse, shipping, and receiving management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing high-volume warehouse and distribution operations.
  • Experience with building products, plastics extrusion, composite manufacturing, or related industries preferred.
  • Supervisory experience leading warehouse and logistics teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, and transportation management.
  • Experience with ERP, WMS, and shipping software systems.
  • Understanding of freight classifications, LTL, FTL, and common carrier operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and implement process improvements.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to heat, noise and moving machinery.
  • Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the facility.
  • Flexibility to support extended hours and multiple shifts required for this position.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely navigate warehouse and loading dock areas.

What You'll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $130,000 to $140,000. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
