Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Supervisor to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Cambridge, MA.

As the Senior Supervisor, you will oversee the activities of the technical, husbandry, and cage wash staff and act as primary liaison for on-site clients and staff for research needs. Collaborate with clients and senior Insourcing Solutions management to maintain operational performance levels consistent with and according to client expectations and company standards. Assist in addressing unique and difficult client requests, animal care and welfare issues.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supervise onsite Charles River Laboratories staff, ensuring adherence to SOPs and safety protocols
  • Conduct performance management, coaching, and employee development
  • Manage scheduling, time-off coordination, and timecard approvals
  • Partner with HR on hiring, onboarding, and personnel actions
  • Interview and select qualified non-exempt personnel
  • Identify training needs and ensure staff receive appropriate onboarding and ongoing training
  • Maintain training records and support development programs for staff
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for on-site clients
  • Respond proactively to client requests, concerns, and inquiries
  • Facilitate the resolution of problems related to the allocation of space, use of equipment, efficient use of personnel, diagnosis of and control of disease, provisions of animal care and technical requests.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with clients and staff to communicate operational updates and projects.
  • Analyze operations and recommend efficiency improvements
  • Ensure optimum performance of staff function
  • Develop, implement, and update SOPs
  • Generate reports and maintain documentation as required
  • Oversee animal care operations including:
    • Feeding, housing, and sanitation
    • Equipment and facility maintenance
    • Coordinate animal ordering, intake, and movement within the facility
    • Ensure proper inventory and supply procurement
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • AAALAC, IACUC, and USDA standards
    • Internal SOPs and biosafety protocols
    • Maintain inspection readiness and support regulatory audits


Job Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must have one of the following combinations of education/experience:

Education and Experience:• B.S./B.A. degree in Biological Sciences or related field plus 4 years of previous laboratory animal research with 2 of those years in supervisory experience.
OR• Associate's degree in veterinary technology or equivalent college level program plus 5 years of previous laboratory animal research experience with 2 of those years in supervisory experience.
OR• High School Diploma and at least 6 years of previous laboratory animal research experience and with 2 of those years in supervisory experience.

Certification/Licensure:• AALAS certification at the LAT level is required. LATG preferred.

The pay range for this position is $95k-105k annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
