Responsibilities
The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Responsibilities include those required to deliver quality service on schedule and within budget in a team environment.
- Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.
- Makes decisive, independent decisions on engineering problems, practices, and methods, creating and refining innovative design solutions including structural analysis, load calculations, connection design, and member sizing. In the case of a licensed staff member, acting as a lead project engineer, this includes but is not limited to, the stamping/sealing of one's drawings/documents as well as drawings/documents done as the professional in "responsible charge" as defined by the applicable statute of jurisdiction.
- Represents the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate a project.
- Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs a medium to large engineering project or a number of smaller complex projects with overall responsibility for budget adherence, schedule adherence, quality control, and inter-discipline coordination.
- Responsible for acceptance or rejection of major items involving materials, equipment, manufacturer's quality, and field construction.
- Serves as a key staff advisor and technical specialist in your chosen discipline, leveraging highly specialized knowledge in structural systems, seismic design, foundation engineering, and material performance, and cutting-edge techniques to drive project success.
- Provides strategic leadership by guiding teams through critical objectives, innovative concepts, policy challenges, and complex project developments.
- Supervises, coordinates, and review the work of a team of structural engineers and designers working on the same assigned project, ensuring structural integrity, code compliance, and appropriate application of design standards and seismic requirements.
- Defines project scope of work and organizes into manageable tasks.
- Provides supervisor and project manager with scope of work change warnings.
- Maintains continuing professional education in discipline, including updates on structural design codes, seismic design standards, and emerging structural engineering technologies. Mentor junior engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance in structural engineering principles, software use, code application, and analysis methodologies.
- Drives business growth through strategic client engagement and proactive business development initiatives.
- Meets with client to define project scope, present project progress, and assure client satisfaction
- Supports risk management initiatives by identifying potential design vulnerabilities related to seismic performance, load path continuity, material durability, lateral stability, foundation adequacy, and connection behavior per local and national code provisions.
- Travel required.
- Valid driver's license required. May be waived for international assignments.

- Competitive Salary: $140,000 - $160,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and certifications.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, which qualifies for licensure in the state of practice, is required.
- PE required or SE licensed with twelve (12) or more years of related practical experience with former employer(s).
- Working knowledge of BIM collaboration and review platforms including ACC/BIM360, Bluebeam, and Navisworks.
- Thorough understanding of US building codes and standards applicable to seismic and structural design: ASCE, ACI, AISC 341, IBC, and applicable state-specific amendments.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply seismic detailing and design requirements for concrete, steel, and foundation systems in seismic design categories D-F is preferred
- Strong client-facing communication skills with experience leading technical discussions with architects, contractors, and owners.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multi-discipline coordination, review processes, and change control in complex projects.
- Experience on Industrial and Manufacturing building projects is mandatory.
- Experience on data center and/or pharmaceutical projects is preferred.
