Full Job Description
Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a full time Senior-Level Structural Engineer for our Columbus office. As part of our Structural team, the selected candidate will be involved with a wide range of projects including planning, design, permitting, and construction of structures for drinking water, wastewater, water resources, and conveyance structures and structural components. Candidate shall be capable of supervising and mentoring junior staff and leading structural design of projects.

The position will include project management, technical leadership and staff mentoring in the Midwest region. Primary focus will be projects in Midwest region including OH, KY, TN and IN. Fieldwork and site visits from planning through construction may be required with occasional travel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform assessment, design and construction tasks for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Lead the structural design and construction administration responsibilities for mid-to-large sized projects involving upgrades to wastewater, water and reclaimed water treatment plants, storage facilities, pipelines, stormwater systems, pump stations and distributions/collection systems.
  • Lead team of structural engineers and designers, mentor and develop junior staff and perform site inspections and assessments of existing infrastructure.
  • Produce design calculations, technical reports, permitting, detailed design and engineering plans/specifications for environmental structures such as industrial buildings, pump stations, process basins, storage facilities and treatment facilities.
  • Participate in construction tasks for similar projects including submittal review, responding to RFI's, site inspections and clarifications during construction.

Required Qualifications:
  • Prospective applicants shall have a minimum of 10 years of experience and have a BS degree or MS degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural Concentration from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Prospective applicants shall have a Professional Engineering (PE) license or ability to obtain such in the State of Ohio.
  • Experience in design and construction of reinforced concrete, reinforced masonry, structural steel and aluminum as well as knowledge of applicable building codes, design standards including ACI, AISC, ASCE, and structural analysis and design software is required.
  • Candidate must be an effective communicator and be able to successfully work in a multi-discipline team environment.
