Full Job Description
Meet the team:

Join our world-class Systems Engineering team as we shape the future of connected diabetes management. As a Senior Staff Systems Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader and systems architect for Dexcom's next-generation digital ecosystem, spanning Mobile Applications, SDKs, Cloud Services, Data Platforms, Partner Integrations, and connected CGM products.

This role is ideal for a seasoned Systems Engineering technical leader who thrives in ambiguity, can navigate highly complex cross-functional programs, and is passionate about driving architecture, requirements, risk management, and technical strategy across multiple concurrent initiatives.

You will act as the technical anchor for software-centric systems, partnering closely with Product Management, Software Engineering, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality, Cybersecurity, Data Platform, and Commercial teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve the lives of people living with diabetes. Beyond project execution, you will serve as a mentor, coach, and advocate for Systems Engineering excellence across the organization.

If you are equally comfortable discussing cloud architecture, mobile application design, system requirements, risk analysis, and executive-level strategy, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Where you come in:
  • You will serve as the Systems Engineering architect and technical lead for Dexcom's connected ecosystem, driving architecture and design decisions across Mobile Applications (iOS/Android), SDKs, Backend Services, Cloud Infrastructure, APIs, and partner integrations.
  • You will lead the definition, decomposition, and governance of system architectures, requirements, interfaces, and workflows for complex, software-intensive medical device systems.
  • You will own and drive resolution of highly complex cross-functional initiatives, including user-facing experiences such as alerts, notifications, data sharing, interoperability, and connected product functionality.
  • You will serve as the primary Systems Engineering leader across multiple concurrent programs and commercial product launches, balancing technical priorities, architectural tradeoffs, schedule constraints, and regulatory requirements.
  • You will develop and maintain system-level requirements, interface specifications, operational concepts, architecture views, and traceability strategies while ensuring alignment with product needs, user workflows, and risk controls.
  • You will lead system-level risk identification and mitigation activities, working closely with Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Human Factors, Cybersecurity, and Software Engineering teams to proactively address product risks.
  • You will champion robust requirements engineering practices using Jama Connect and establish scalable approaches for requirement quality, traceability, impact assessment, and change management across product portfolios.
  • You will mentor Systems Engineers across all experience levels, helping elevate architectural thinking, systems modeling, requirements development, technical problem solving, and risk management capabilities throughout the organization.
  • You will advocate for Systems Engineering as a strategic technical discipline by driving technical leadership, facilitating architecture reviews, enabling informed decision-making, and influencing organizational direction beyond traditional documentation activities.

What makes you successful:
  • You possess expert-level Systems Engineering knowledge and have successfully architected and delivered large-scale, connected software-enabled products comprising Mobile Apps, Cloud Services, APIs, Backend Platforms, and embedded devices.
  • You demonstrate exceptional systems thinking and can rapidly connect business objectives, user needs, technical constraints, regulatory requirements, and operational considerations into a cohesive system architecture.
  • You have deep experience defining and managing requirements for software-intensive systems, including complex user workflows, data flows, alerts and notifications, connectivity, interoperability, and cloud-based services.
  • You possess strong architectural expertise across modern software ecosystems including mobile applications, SDKs, cloud platforms, web services, data platforms, microservices, security frameworks, and system integrations.
  • You are highly effective at driving technical alignment across diverse stakeholders and can navigate ambiguity, conflicting priorities, and organizational complexity while maintaining forward momentum.
  • You have demonstrated success leading multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously while providing technical leadership, work direction, and coaching to engineers across disciplines.
  • You have extensive experience applying risk management principles in accordance with ISO 14971 and can effectively lead hazard analysis, software risk assessments, interface risk evaluations, and system-level trade studies.
  • You are an outstanding communicator capable of influencing engineers, architects, functional managers, program leaders, and executive stakeholders through data-driven recommendations and well-structured technical arguments.
  • You have a proven ability to transform struggling or ambiguous programs into structured, executable plans by driving architectural clarity, requirements maturity, ownership alignment, and technical accountability.
  • You are recognized as a mentor and force multiplier who develops technical talent, strengthens Systems Engineering culture, and helps establish best practices across the organization.

Nice to haves:
  • INCOSE CSEP/ESEP certification, MBSE experience (Cameo, Sparx EA, SysML), or equivalent systems architecture expertise.
  • Hands-on experience with Jama Connect, Jira, TestRail, GitHub, Ketryx, and modern product lifecycle management tools.
  • Experience architecting regulated mobile health, digital health, Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), or connected medical device ecosystems.
  • Experience with mobile application architecture (Android/iOS), SDK development, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of interoperability technologies including Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), partner integrations, third-party APIs, and connected device ecosystems.
  • Experience supporting commercial product launches, sustaining engineering activities, field issue investigations, and post-market design changes.
  • Experience with cybersecurity considerations for connected medical devices, cloud-hosted systems, and consumer mobile applications.
  • Experience implementing AI-assisted Systems Engineering, requirements generation, traceability automation, or architecture analysis workflows.
