Job Purpose

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for cost accounting, financial analysis, and manufacturing reporting activities across assigned operations. This role prepares and consolidates financial and operational analyses, supports budgeting and forecasting processes, and provides meaningful insights to drive informed business decisions. The Senior Cost Accountant collaborates closely with manufacturing and cross-functional teams to ensure accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and continuous process improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly close process by independently completing assigned responsibilities in a timely manner while maintaining appropriate supporting documentation, work instructions, and audit-ready records.
  • Prepare and post journal entries accurately and timely.
  • Perform account reconciliations and investigate reconciling items as needed.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, cross-functional projects, and ad hoc reporting requests.
  • Review, analyze, investigate, and explain financial and operational variances on a routine basis.
  • Support annual physical inventories, cycle counts, inventory reconciliations, and inventory-related analysis.
  • Assist with standard cost development, annual cost rolls, and product cost analysis.
  • Prepare and distribute recurring financial and management reports.
  • Analyze gross profit performance and key business drivers across assigned business units or operations.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support operational and strategic business decisions.
  • Prepare analyses for high-priority accounts, quarter-end and year-end reporting packages, and internal and external audit requests.
  • Identify control weaknesses and recommend process improvements to strengthen internal controls and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and foster a collaborative, professional, and respectful team environment.
  • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation to ensure accounting procedures and financial impacts are clearly understood and consistently applied.
  • Partner with operations, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to support cost accounting activities and business performance initiatives.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively in a cross-functional, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong project management skills, including effective organization, initiative, follow-through, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong accounting, financial analysis, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex issues and develop practical solutions.
  • Advanced computer proficiency with strong Microsoft Excel skills, including data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with SyteLine ERP preferred; OneStream experience is a plus.
