Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Sr. Specialist Systems Engineer, Instrumentation Design Engineer to be a technical leader throughout the entire development lifecycle including programs, pursuits, and basic research. In this role, you will be responsible for system definition and design, interface management, technical trade studies, performance budgets, requirements decomposition, allocation, management, and requirements-based validation and verification. You will collaborate closely with customers, product/program managers, engineers, operations, and third-party vendors to ensure the systems and products meet or exceed customer needs. Additionally, you will conduct system integration, characterize performance, and contribute to a heterogenous blend of embedded hardware, firmware, and software-based flight test instrumentation products. Essential Functions:
  • Overall responsibility for development of program technical baseline. Works closely with program Chief System Engineer to develop verifiable technical requirements.
  • Responsible for providing technical leadership, guidance, and direction to Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Firmware designers to ensure the success of the design.
  • Control and develop requirements and verification plans while positively interacting with customers to solve technical problems and identify areas to improve their work.
  • Responsible for the technical integrity of the system through the product/program full life cycle including proposals, design, integration & test, verification, and sustainment.
  • Walk both sides of the V; decompose requirements to drive a risk mitigated development plan, oversee system integration, and lead requirements-based verification using test threads.
  • Technical point of contact for the customer.
  • Brief leadership on technical status.
  • Identifies, tracks, mitigates, manages, and dispositions program-level risks and opportunities.
  • Ability to lead Root Cause / Corrective Action investigations that are typically associated with Qualification or Acceptance test failures including managing the investigation and briefing internal and external customers throughout the effort.
  • Estimate resource and material needs for the project/product.
  • Use data models, hardware/software interfaces, synchronous processing constructs and control methodology, real-time processing including CPU / FPGA / GPU fabric, precision time distribution and discipline, and data interfaces.
  • Perform trade studies on a variety of systems and components.
  • Ability to obtain Secret security clearance.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Extensive experience in digital electronics, FPGA/VHDL and software development of custom electronic subsystems.
  • Experience in detailed design for Telemetry or similar mixed-signal products.
  • Experience or knowledge of Government contract acquisition lifecycle a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, & presentation).
  • Experience developing technical or cost proposals (including generating basis of estimates) in a defense contracting environment.
  • Master's degree in Systems, Electrical, or similar Engineering discipline.
  • 4 years of experience in digital electronics, FPGA/VHDL and software development and integration programs.
  • 2 years of experience with requirements management along with DOORs, JAMA or equivalent requirements management tool
