Full Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain a distinguished level of expertise in the detail design practices of SEL protection and automation systems.

2. Develop and maintain a distinguished level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation.

3. Serve as a technical expert in the design and application of SEL equipment and solutions in a focus area*.

4. Teach, develop, mentor, and influence SEL employees and support hiring the highly qualified employees.

5. Work within the project team to develop project deliverables.

6. Train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.

7. Follows processes and recognizes the impact of problems. Creates and implements process enhancements.

8. Work in a safe, healthful and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries.

9. Provide support for other SEL marketing, sales, application engineering, and development activities.

10. Acts as a mentor to specialists and technicians.

11. Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles.

12. Understand. Create. Simplify.

13. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience/military school training
  • 15 plus years of experience with electrical power systems or industrial automation system practices:
  • Good knowledge of system protection, integration, and automation applications working knowledge of electric power systems and protective relay applications
  • Excellent technical training
  • Ability to learn, mentor, and teach concepts and technical details of products
  • Ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities
  • Willing to travel as needed
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL
  • Negative drug test result(s)


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electric power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systems
  • Experience being a part of project teams
  • *Disciplines include Automation, Protection, System Design & Relay Technician.
