We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and support scalable backend services and APIs that power critical business capabilities across Optum Technology. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality software solutions, collaborating across product and engineering teams, and helping evolve our platforms through strong technical leadership and sound engineering practices.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex business problems, building reliable systems, mentoring teammates, and driving continuous improvement across the software development lifecycle using modern tech-forward delivery practices
Primary Responsibilities:- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using .NET and C#
- Partner with product, business, and engineering stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable, resilient technical solutions
- Build reusable services and components that support multiple products and business capabilities
- Take ownership of software solutions throughout the development lifecycle, including production support and continuous improvement
- Contribute to architecture decisions, technical designs, and engineering standards across the team
- Lead code reviews and promote best practices related to quality, performance, security, and maintainability
- Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline software development workflows, automate tasks, write tests, and drive continuous delivery improvements
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive long-term technical remediation
- Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and engineering practices to inform solution design and strategic innovation
- Mentor engineers through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and hands-on collaboration within an Agile delivery framework

Required Qualifications:- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
- 5+ years of backend development experience using .NET and C#
- 4+ years of equivalent software development experience
- 3+ years of experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs
- 2+ years of enterprise cloud development experience, AWS preferred
- 2+ years of experience working with relational SQL or NoSQL databases
- 2+ years of experience with modern CI/CD pipelines and source control systems, such as Git or GitHub Actions
Preferred Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience working with NoSQL databases, specifically Amazon DynamoDB
- Experience with ASP.NET Core framework and building microservices architectures
- Experience designing and implementing event-driven architecture solutions
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS
- Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
- Experience implementing observability and monitoring practices across enterprise-scale platforms
- Experience and proficiency using AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or generative AI platforms, to streamline coding workflows, testing, and documentation
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments supporting high-availability, business-critical applications
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform
- Proven track record of mentoring junior and mid-level engineers and leading technical design discussions

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
