Full Job Description
Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, WI will design, develop, and maintain high-quality software applications that meet business requirements and technical specifications. Conduct comprehensive code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards, performance optimization, and security best practices. Demonstrate technical leadership, providing guidance and mentorship to junior software engineers, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Collaborate with software architects and other engineering teams to design scalable and efficient system architectures and assess and provide solutions to system-wide architectural problems. Analyze and translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring clear understanding and feasibility. Maintain detailed documentation for software designs, code, and system configurations. Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and perform debugging to ensure software reliability and performance. Participate in Agile and Scrum teams, contributing to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospective meetings. Advocate for and implement continuous improvement practices, including code refactoring, automated testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Establish, aggregate, and share team standards and best practices within the department to ensure consistency and quality across projects. Utilize working relationships across teams within the division to ensure alignment and effective communication on projects. Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX designers, and QA engineers, to deliver high-quality products on time. Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending and implementing new tools and practices to enhance development processes. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to internal and external customers, resolving complex software issues in a timely manner. Telecommuting permitted. Salary $120,494- $222,300 per year.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or a related field and four years of experience as a software engineer or related occupation. Experience must include four years of experience with each of the following: (1) Java-related micro services; (2) JavaScript technologies; (3) developing solutions using agile methods; (4) writing unit test cases for code developed; and (5) CI/CD pipelines.
