Annualized Salary Range: $135,000.00 - $165,000.00 commensurate with experience.

Position Description:

Caliola Engineering is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build software that solves complex, meaningful problems in support of mission-critical applications. You will work alongside a collaborative engineering team to turn advanced technical capabilities into intuitive, reliable products supporting missions such as communications planning, A-PNT, and secure mesh networking. This is a hands-on role for an experienced engineer who wants to own challenging problems, influence technical direction, and help shape how our software evolves. You will contribute directly to development while providing technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, strengthening both the product and the team around you. Our stack includes TypeScript, Vue.js, and Nuxt on the frontend, Nitro and Node.js for backend services, and Tauri for desktop applications. Essential Responsibilities:

UI Development

• Build responsive, reliable user interfaces that meet approved designs and technical requirements.
• Regularly contribute production-quality code and deliver functionality within agreed timelines.
• Develop and maintain reusable UI components aligned with Caliola's design system.

Technical Leadership

• Translate project requirements into technical requirements, development tasks, and project milestones.
• Help organize and prioritize development work using agile tools and practices, including leading or supporting agile meetings.
• Provide technical guidance to other developers through code reviews, collaboration, and reinforcement of development standards while working effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

User Experience

• Implement intuitive workflows and interactions that support user and mission needs.
• Partner with UI/UX and stakeholders to understand requirements, communicate technical constraints, and develop effective solutions.
• Identify and help resolve usability issues throughout development.

Frontend Quality

• Write clean, maintainable, tested code that meets development standards.
• Define and implement appropriate unit and system testing.
• Identify and resolve defects, performance issues, and browser or device inconsistencies.

System Integration

• Integrate frontend applications with APIs, services, databases, and backend systems.
• Coordinate interface requirements and troubleshoot integration issues across the application stack.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support reliable software delivery.

Document & Improve

• Maintain technical documentation, reusable components, and project deliverables.
• Support customer-facing documentation and progress reporting as needed.
• Contribute to improvements in frontend tools, standards, processes, and development practices.

What We Require:

• Current or recent (within the last 5 years) U.S. Department of War security clearance at the Secret level or higher.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of directly relevant professional software engineering experience, with demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining production frontend applications, preferably with a Department of War contractor.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and JavaScript, with production experience using a modern frontend framework such as Vue, React, Solid, or Angular.
• Strong understanding of asynchronous programming concepts and modern frontend application architecture.
• Experience integrating frontend applications with server-side technologies such as Node.js, Rust, Go, or Python.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices.
• Strong technical communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and UI/UX teams.

What We Value:

• Experience working with SQL or NoSQL databases and developing full-stack applications.
• Strong understanding of software architecture principles, including modularization, separation of concerns, maintainability, and application development at enterprise scale.
• Experience translating high-level customer needs into functional requirements and technical solutions.
• Experience modernizing, refactoring, or sustaining existing applications.
• Curiosity and a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, tools, and design approaches.
• Familiarity with emerging trends in web, desktop, and mobile application development.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to regularly use a computer and other standard office equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to handle and operate common workplace technology and equipment, including laptops, mobile devices, and related peripherals.
• Ability to perform work requiring sustained visual attention and fine motor coordination when reviewing, creating, and interacting with digital information.
