Senior Semiconductor Equipment Engineer (Mechanical)

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Semiconductor Equipment Engineer to join Mycronic's Global Technologies division working within Surfx Technologies, our Applied Plasma business line. It is an exciting time to join our team!

Surfx Technologies is a fast-growing company that offers atmospheric argon plasmas for the high-volume manufacturing of integrated circuits, semiconductor packages, printed circuit boards, and other microelectronic devices. These automated plasma machines are an excellent choice for surface cleaning, activation, and metal oxide removal. The Surfx Technologies team delivers this atmospheric argon plasma technology for assembled products that are less likely to corrode, delaminate, or come unglued during their lifetime. Our customers include the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers and technology companies.

Our industry leading tools deliver fast, effective, damage-free and particle-free surface modification, employing our proprietary atmospheric pressure, argon plasma technology. Collaborating within the team, this role requires deep knowledge of mechatronics to design and develop innovative new products. The Semiconductor Equipment Engineer works closely with sales engineers, service engineers, process engineers and management to help Surfx gain a significant share of the semiconductor equipment industry.

The Semiconductor Equipment Engineer is a pivotal position You'll spearhead the development of Surfx Technologies innovative, turnkey plasma tools for the semiconductor industry. These tools leverage our proprietary atmospheric pressure, argon plasma technology to deliver rapid, effective, and damage/particle-free surface modification. This role demands deep mechatronics expertise and close collaboration with sales, service, process, and management teams to secure a significant market share in semiconductor equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Spearheads the end-to-end mechanical engineering development cycle for turnkey plasma tools, from conceptualization through design, testing, and successful market launch
  • Innovates and implements advanced mechatronic solutions for high-precision, fully automated plasma machines designed for front and back-end semiconductor manufacturing
  • Applies engineering principles and proficiency in tools like SolidWorks and GD&T for mechanical design and integration
  • Ensures tools deliver critical performance metrics such as fast, effective, damage-free, and particle-free surface modification, leveraging proprietary atmospheric pressure, argon plasma technology
  • Manages project timelines and resources effectively using strong communication skills and Microsoft Project to bring complex equipment to market
  • Coach and mentor less experienced team members while contributing to a high-performing, collaborative environment that encourages innovation and creative problem-solving for complex semiconductor equipment challenges
  • Provides global technical support and expertise, including international travel, to facilitate business operations and product deployment
  • Process Engineering, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Engineering, Statistical Process Control (SPC), and Business Process Improvement


Experience and Qualifications

  • 10 years plus of mechanical tool design experience, preferably in the semiconductor industry or working with high precision equipment applications
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, GD&T, and Microsoft project
  • Knowledge of equipment cleanliness and safety standards (ISO, CE, UL, SEMI, NFPA, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication as well as project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers; work both independently and effectively within a team
  • Travel domestically and internationally to customer sites, as needed
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States; this position does not offer visa sponsorship
  • Prior experience with providing technical guidance and project management mentorship to team members, fostering knowledge sharing, effective planning, cross-functional collaboration
