General Summary

Implement, oversee, and adapt policies and programs to improve BioBridge Global's BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene programs, including business continuity and risk management programs. Manage safety activities to ensure BioBridge Global complies with BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene regulations as well as internal policies. In conjunction with Quality Management, oversee the business continuity and risk & compliance program to ensure the organization is prepared for disasters and preemptively assessing internal and external threats to the organization. Assigned to Global Quality, the BioSafety Compliance and Risk Manager will work cross-functionally with the HR Safety Representative and other team members to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance, co-lead safety meetings and the safety governance committee, and establish safety goals and objectives working closely with Business Unit leadership. Business Continuity and Risk Functions will be performed with support from Global Quality and Regulatory leadership.

Provide world class customer service by capturing and being responsive to the voice of the customer (internal or external, including donors for select positions) through multiple feedback channels in order to resolve issues and drive satisfaction in accordance with the BBG customer engagement, feedback, and complaint processes.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Tasks
• Oversee the BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene safety program to ensure the organization complies with environmental safety regulations and standards as well as internal environmental policies.
• Monitors overall safety performance and ensures gaps and risks are addressed to include performance and compliance with General Safety Policy, Hazard Communication Policy, Exposure Control Policy, Regulated Medical Waste Policy and Chemical Hygiene Policy in areas such as laboratories, processing facilities and donor collection areas.
• Coordinate, support and respond to applicable Federal, State or Local regulatory inquiries, concerns and inspections with regards to BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene.
• As needed, collaborate on the investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, and near-misses to identify root causes and implement preventive measures with HR Safety Representative.
• Provide oversight to safety warden training program, new hire safety training and coordinate periodic fire drills.
• Develop and implement inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections of laboratories, donor collection facilities and administrative areas.
• Develop and deliver BioSafety and Chemical Hygiene training programs; manage relationships with community or applicable external stakeholders.
• Develop, revise and implement business continuity, disaster preparedness and emergency evacuation plans, policies and procedures.
• Lead the disaster preparedness exercises, simulations and live events to include summarizing actions taken and lessons learned.
• Collaborate with Operations to review plans and specifications for installation of new machinery or equipment to ensure all safety requirements have been met.
• Reviews and approves safety equipment and applicable procedures.
• Ensures training and maintenance of procedures and recommendations for first responder's teams, contract employees, onsite vendors and internal employees.
• Ensures applicable permits are maintained with applicable State and Federal Agencies regarding BioHazard and Chemical Hygiene.
• In collaboration with the HR Safety Representative, co-leads safety meetings and the Safety Council, creates and maintains partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• In collaboration with the HR Safety Representative, contribute current safety training topics to include in monthly Be Safe BBG meetings.
• Ensures the Safety Council meets on a regular basis and completes action items in a timely manner.
• Manages MSDS program for materials, including hazardous chemicals used at BioBridge Global facilities, ensuring operational departments keep an up-to-date MSDS.
• Implements new health and safety protocols and measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Willing to travel to different facilities/locations within the BBG Enterprise, including out-of-state facilities
• Participates in/attends conferences in the field of environmental and employee health and safety.
• Assist in other department areas as directed.

Education

Required Minimum Education

Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work relative to the field of assignment.

Preferred Education

Prefer a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.

Licenses and/or Certifications
• Certifications applicable to Health and Safety, OSHA, etc.
• Valid United States Driver's License

Experience

Required Minimum Experience
• Requires five or more years of occupational safety, healthcare facility, industrial hygiene, or environmental experience in a bio-manufacturing, high volume laboratory, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Requires experience working in environments that use and or process blood-borne pathogens, chemical hazards, and biohazards.
• Requires a strong background in training employees, supervision and management in all areas of Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
• Requires experience leading emergency preparedness or disaster recovery exercises within a department or organization.
• Requires experience communicating and presenting to senior leadership.

Knowledge
• Must obtain a working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements and perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
• Must have knowledge of environmental regulations (waste, chemical handling, bloodborne pathogens)
• Must have knowledge of emergency preparedness and disaster recovery processes
• Must be able to write procedures and reports.

Skills
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must have experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Visio, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Must be capable of operating motor vehicles in all types of weather conditions.

Working Environment & Travel Requirements

Works in a well-lighted air conditioned and heated laboratory/department. May be exposed to electrical, mechanical and chemical hazards and other conditions common to a laboratory environment. May be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical laboratory environment. May have bodily exposure to refrigerator/freezer temperature, especially hands and face. Will work extended hours during peak periods. May be required to work any time of the day, evening or night during the week or weekend. Occupational Exposure Assignment - Category I

Must be able to drive on behalf of the organization.
