Full Job Description
The Opportunity: The Senior Safety and Environmental Specialist is responsible for monitoring the safety and efficiency of the company's processes to minimize risks and hazards that may occur in the workplace. This role will also plan and or facilitate safety and environmental trainings and programs for all employees to support OSHA, Company policies and other state required regulations while within the premises.

Job Title:Senior Safety and Environmental Specialist
Location: onsite in Winsted, MN
Salary Range: $81,373 - $97,803/year (Exempt)
(In compliance with Minnesota Pay Transparency Law, this range reflects the anticipated compensation for this role. Actual pay may vary based on experience, education, and other factors.)
Incentive bonus opportunity: Freight Train Profit Sharing - Average of +$3.50/hour based on meeting goals
Schedule: Monday - Friday Business Hours
Shift Differential: 1st shift - N/A

As a Senior Safety and Environmental Specialist.you will:

  • Ownership of Safety Program, Program Results, and Continuous Improvement
  • Inspect facilities/equipment to identify and correct hazards and compliance issues
  • Inspect workplace environments, activities, and conditions to verify compliance with federal laws, regulations, and requirements
  • Develop, deliver, and facilitate safety and environmental compliance and awareness trainings
  • Develop, maintain, and cascade safety policies
  • Manage environmental compliance and reporting
  • Manage OSHA compliance tasks
  • Investigate environmental issues and recommend solutions and fixes
  • Investigate workplace incidents (accidents, near misses) to identify root problems, eliminate existing dangers, recommend prevention measures, and assist the team in implementing prevention solutions
  • Support internal and external audits
  • Manage medical responder team
  • Conduct routine and follow-up safety, environmental, and hazard inspections
  • Support the continuous evolution of our safety culture
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Manage 3rd party relationships supporting our Safety program


Role Qualifications as a Senior Safety and Environmental Specialist:

  • Preferred candidates will have a bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental science, occupational health and safety, or related curriculum or a combination of education and experience equivalent to this requirement
  • Experience leading safety improvements in manufacturing
  • Experience or exposure to environmental and/or regulatory environments
  • OSHA 511 certification preferred
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Ability to develop, implement, and continuously revise safety programs
  • Ability to influence employees and leaders for a safe work environment
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work in a fast-paced environment to meet communicated schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions
  • Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication skills
  • Work with others as part of a high-performance team
