Job Summary:

The National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking to fill an immediate opening for Senior Research Scientist II.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate attainment of an international reputation for conducting world-class basic and applied research in several cutting-edge areas with recognized expertise in fluid dynamics (subsonic to hypersonic flow regimes), aeroacoustics, design of experiments, signal processing, and data reduction. The individual has the responsibility to demonstrate that he/she is one of the top researchers in the world in several of these research areas.

Job Description:

The National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking to fill an immediate opening for Senior Research Scientist II.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate attainment of an international reputation for conducting world-class basic and applied research in several cutting-edge areas with recognized expertise in fluid dynamics (subsonic to hypersonic flow regimes), aeroacoustics, design of experiments, signal processing, and data reduction. The individual has the responsibility to demonstrate that he/she is one of the top researchers in the world in several of these research areas.

The individual should demonstrate leadership roles in the activities of multiple recognized professional technical societies, government advisory boards, as well as active participation in international symposia and congresses.

The individual should demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of experience leading a multidisciplinary research and development group. This includes a track record of recruiting, leading, developing, evaluating, and maintaining high-quality research staff and students, as well as an ability to mentor and encourage staff professional development.

The individual should demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of experience maintaining key sponsor relationships for program breadth, depth, viability and external recognition. This includes identifying and developing new business opportunities for attracting research funding necessary to support a major multidisciplinary research and development group.

The individual should demonstrate a minimum of 15 years of experience in performing program management functions. These functions include, but are not limited to, employee administration such as payroll, resource and staffing allocations, evaluations, hiring and disciplinary actions; research task administration from proposals through deliverables and compliance with policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

The candidate shall act in a leadership role in test planning and execution within the High-Speed Aeroacoustics Research Group (HSAG) by fostering a culture of communication and coordinating team efforts to deploy diagnostics, operate test programs, and analyze and produce data products. The candidate shall team with the other researchers to grow and broaden the aeroacoustics research activities at The University of Mississippi. The candidate shall demonstrate excellence in academic research evidenced by attainment of a national reputation for successful research in a specific area and active participation in recognized professional societies of relevance. The candidate shall utilize modern testing techniques to measure and characterize complex flow fields and aeroacoustics related phenomena. The candidate shall interact with external customers and partners to increase research productivity and advance research goals. The candidate shall seek to advance NCPA's mission through contributions to infrastructure modernization, implementation of novel diagnostic techniques, intellectual property development, and growth of external partnerships and academic collaborations. The candidate will be expected to develop and sustain extramural funding for research efforts commensurate with their expertise and mentor graduate students on related research projects.

Minimum Qualifications (education and experience):

Demonstrated proficiency in the practice of modern fluid-mechanics measurements (e.g. PIV, LDV, LDA, DIC, PLIF, Shack-Hartmann, hot wire arrays, microphone arrays, Kulites, etc.).

Demonstrated familiarity with correlation-based analytical methods (e.g. wavenumber-frequency decomposition, POD, wave-packet analysis, array processing).

Minimum of 15 years of experience.

The selected candidate must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Possession of a Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related field.
