Located within the state-of-the-art, high-security Nixon Forensic Center, Certified Forensic Examiners (CFEs) work with the Competency Restoration and Acute Forensic Treatment (CRAFT) program, statewide mobile teams, and county jails to complete court ordered evaluations, specifically competency to stand trial, not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect, and sexually violent predator evaluations. CFEs are responsible for conducting evaluations, writing comprehensive reports, and offering testimony on a diverse population of individuals with serious mental illness and facing a wide range of charges ranging from misdemeanor assault to murder. The CFE-Team Leader is responsible for supervising the other CFE's, maintaining a database regarding the status of evaluations, ensuring reports are completed in a timely manner, and regularly communicating with Central Office and FSH hospital administration to provide status updates.
