Role Summary

The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for capturing, analyzing and reporting information and data relating to manufacturing operating costs, including labor and materials, gross margin, scrap/waste rates, inventory accuracy, and trends in product lines, customers and sales, for the purposes of: (i) ensuring accurate financial reporting; (ii) controlling manufacturing costs; and (iii) supporting operational decision-making.

This role works closely with plant operations management, supply chain and finance leadership, as well as sales leadership, to improve cost visibility and savings, operating margins, drive continuous improvement initiatives and strengthen inventory control and accuracy.

All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

PROJECT ACCOUNTING FAMILY - CORE
  • Identify, develop and implement financial reporting for manufacturing operations.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory and oversee inventory valuation including raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
  • Evaluate and support the implementation of a new manufacturing-oriented ERP system.
  • Prepares, examines and analyzes project cost accounting records and reports.
  • Performs any necessary cost transfers to accurately record job cost activity.
  • Assists project team with interpreting financial key performance indicators.
  • Prepares owner billing in compliance with the terms and conditions of the owner contract, on a monthly, interim or milestone basis.
  • Compiles all required back-up documentation for owner billings.
  • Monitors status of owner payment for compliance with contract terms and follow up as needed.
  • Assists with month-end reconciliation, including unbilled reports.
  • Provides additional analytical support regarding project status and performance as needed.
  • Assists in preparation of project-specific audits by providing documentation and backup required by external auditors.
  • Conducts final review of all project financials to ensure billings and cost budgets are complete and ready to close.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and establishes appropriate documentation.

SENIOR PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:
  • Provides project accounting support for larger, more complex projects.
  • Investigates and independently resolves issues related to project accounting data or processes.
  • Capable of functioning as owner of special projects from conceptualization through implementation.
  • Packages and presents project financial recommendations, along with analysis, to project team leaders.
  • May provide mentorship, coaching, oversight, or direct management of other Project Accountants.

  • Proficiency in MS Office with emphasis on strong Excel skills

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (Required)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered


Experience

  • 5+ years accounting experience in construction or related industry with project cost accounting (Required)
  • Strong proficiency with ERP platforms and manufacturing operating systems, with the ability to leverage technology to support efficient production operations (preferred)


Working Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Typically travel is not required
  • Normal office environment or jobsite office
