Job Description

We are seeking an innovative, passionate, and highly capable individual with a proven track record of running high-visibility, business-critical system solutions within our life sciences division. A successful candidate will work cross-functionally to drive the development and implementation of effective and efficient plans, scaling the product development process to meet the needs of the business appropriately, and bring a strong continuous improvement. Waters Biosciences Division (WBD) develops research-only and IVD products and an employee with applicable experience within a regulated environment will be valuable in this position.

This role is integral to our mission, requiring a deep understanding of hardware and software development, project management, and team member engagement to drive successful outcomes. This will be an excellent opportunity to develop more skills in managing highly complex product development and gain access to WBD leadership and business processes. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record for developing complex instrumentation, hardware and software projects, and can lead teams through development reviews and has strong risk management skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Leadership: Lead cross-functional teams through the entire lifecycle of complex hardware development projects, from conception to post-launch commercialization and product improvements. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities. Provide strategic direction to the core team and support functional representatives as needed to facilitate cross-functional cooperation.
  • Project Planning & Execution: Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. Monitor progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure project success. Identify key achievements, deliverables, and risks, and create strategies to address potential challenges. Collaborate with R&D, engineering, integrated supply chain, quality assurance and regulatory teams to ensure seamless execution of program activities. Facilitate communication and cooperation across departments. Lead a cross-functional team ensuring execution of program work (including documentation) to ensure team completes deliverables per the integrated plan for post launch activities.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external collaborators, including R&D, integrated supply chain, marketing and executive leadership. Communicate project status, risks and changes effectively. Provide regular updates, manage expectations and address any issues or concerns.
  • High Visibility/Business Critical Programs: Represent the program in executive meetings, conferences, and other high-profile forums. Demonstrate the value and impact of the program to senior leadership and other key partners.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to address them. Ensure that all potential issues are proactively managed to minimize impact on project timelines and deliverables. Develop contingency plans and address issues proactively to minimize impact on program objectives.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track program progress, budget and resource allocation. Implement metrics and KPIs to measure program performance and impact. Adjust plans as needed to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Compliance & Quality Assurance: Ensure all projects align with relevant regulations, standards, quality requirements and company policies. Facilitate the completion of necessary documentation and testing. Promote standard processes and continuous improvement in program management. Work with project team members at local and remote sites to coordinate filing of all essential project documentation. Bring regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management when necessary.
  • Budget Management and Resource Allocation: Use the OnePlan enterprise utility for project budget and resource plan management. Maintain compliance to business budget guidelines throughout the fiscal period, proactively raising challenges and responding to tightening of budgets when required. Ensure comprehensive resource planning and allocation, working closely with functional leaders for accuracy and correct allocations of all functional resources required to implement program plans.


Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (MBA or MS) preferred.


Experience:
  • At least 8-12 years of experience in a related industry; at least 5-7 years of experience in program management with a focus on hardware and/or software development, preferably in the life sciences or medical devices sector.
  • Strong, proven knowledge in product development and design control.
  • Laboratory instrument or capital equipment development experience is a plus, or similar SW/FW/HW integrated project management for commercial products.

Skills:
  • Proven track record of managing complex hardware projects with high visibility and business impact.
  • Strong understanding of product development cycles and hardware engineering principles.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies (e.g. Agile, Waterfall).
  • Proven expertise in managing large cross-functional programs with significant business impact.
  • Strong understanding of life sciences technologies and industry trends.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to manage budgets, timelines and resources effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage collaborators at all levels for high-profile programs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) or other recognized PM tools.


Certifications:
  • PMP or equivalent project management certification is preferred.


Travel:
  • Able to travel up 10% (domestic and potentially international)
